Elaine: : “Do you pee in the shower??”
Kramer : “No, I take baths”
Cracks me up every time.
I don’t take baths, But I used to read in the tub a lot. Like beck, I don’t want to take my kindle in there. A paper book can be salvaged, but I don’t do paper books anymore.
When I remodeled, I put in a longer and deeper tub. It’s better, but still a tub.
My BFF has a sort of garden tub in the house he bought. He wants to get rid of it, but there are plumbing issues about that (the house has no basement). He calls the tub the “Spider race track”
My wife and I use our hot tub frequently, so that satisfies our “soaking” needs. Plus, we have a great view (and privacy) from our hot tub. We do have a large bath big enough for both of us, but we rarely use it.
I don’t use small (normal size) bath tubs for this reason. (and I’m shorter than you). But a tub big enough to get completely submersed in is great.
Shower only for the most part, but I want a cold drink in there, or perhaps a cup of joe in the morning… and most importantly a place to put that drink on a stable flat surface above, or otherwise beyond the reach of water spray. I had to install a very high shelf to prevent my wife from using it for her stuff so I can place a glass or cup (no matter how many shelves I install she will fill them - I installed a step to get into the attic and came back and it was filled with her stuff.
I shower only. The thought of soaking in a bath seems like a waste of time and gross, to boot. However, we put in a hot tub on the deck this year Not much different, I guess. I’m weird, haha. And I do read email on my phone. But I shower after being in it!
My shower has a built in seat. So, I sit down and wake up. And shave sitting there every other day or so. I’m a guy but don’t need a mirror as I can find my face.
I lived in houses without air conditioning until moving into this condo five years ago. On especially hot days, I would sit in the tub and turn on the cold water until it covered me (or nearly so) and then turn the water off. Of course I would read. Did it help? Damn right it did. Felt wonderful. Then I would go to bed without drying myself off. I would usually shower first.
I am part of the faction that dislikes baths, and prefers showers, but my wife is a huge fan of long, supremely hot baths, ideally with one or more books. Never music, or video, although that would be easy to provide with several tablets in the house, including those which would be a small loss if dropped in the water.
But give my wife a scalding hot bath, especially when it’s cold, with repeated refills on the hot water, and a favorite book, and it’ll be over an hour before she’s seen again.
Sometimes her cat (the cat’s choice) will come and sit on her IN THE BATHTUB. He’s a weirdo.
I read in the tub all the time. But never books borrowed from the library – because I might drop them in; and even if I don’t, whatever I read in the tub gets somewhat wet and looks it.
Yard sale / library book sale books are excellent for reading in the tub. Once in a while I buy something new; I’ll usually read that in the tub, too. Even if I drop it in, it generally still stays readable.
Oh, just an FYI for our tub readers. The modern models of the Kindle Paperwhite and Oasis are waterproof enough for tub use!
We designed the Kindle Oasis (9th Generation and above) and Kindle Paperwhite (10th Generation and above) to be waterproof. Your Kindle has been tested to withstand accidental immersion in water under certain conditions. It meets the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standard 60529 rating of IPX8 (in laboratory, can withstand immersion in up to 2 meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes and 0.25 meters for 3 minutes in seawater). In addition, we’ve tested your Kindle to withstand exposure to water in many popular places to read. However, your Kindle is not intended for underwater use and may experience temporary effects from exposure to water. Do not intentionally immerse your Kindle in water or expose it to seawater, salt water, chlorinated water, or other liquids (such as beverages). If your Kindle gets accidentally dropped in a bath tub, hot tub, the pool, splashed by the ocean at the beach, or otherwise exposed to water, quickly retrieve it and follow the care instructions below.
What should I do if my Kindle gets wet?
If your Kindle is splashed with water, wipe it off with a soft cloth and keep on reading. If your Kindle is immersed in water, remove its cover, make sure no cables are plugged into the device, and do not attempt to charge your Kindle until it is completely dry. If your Kindle is immersed in salt water, chlorinated water, soapy water, or liquids other than fresh water, make sure you rinse that liquid out of the device with fresh water such as cold tap water. Then dry your Kindle.
My wife and her mother have a book category called “bathtub books” --the ones they’re willing to read in the tub because they won’t really mind if the book falls into the water.
