Our ensuite bathroom just has a shower stall, so the most you can do is stand (or sit, I suppose) and let the water beat down upon your carcass. I’ll occasionally clean the shower floor - my foot is adept at scrubbing with the scotch-brite sponge and a sprinkle of comet. Does that count as doing stuff? Honestly, even when we had a huge tub in our of our houses, I think I used it once in 3 years - I’m not a bath person.
On the other hand, when we had a hot tub on the screened porch, I could sit there with hot water up to my neck and just look at the birds and squirrels and plants in the yard. Didn’t even have the obligatory glass of wine.
Another person who hasn’t had a bath since childhood. Love our hot tub though! We sit in there together and talk, so no reading. Usually with a drink.
The shower in our house has to be experienced, though. Overhead shower and body jets, steam and a hand shower for cleaning the shower (or washing yourself when you’re injured). My husband made a cedar seat. I’ve definitely been using all the available tools while fighting another bout of covid this week. There’s nothing like a steam shower for congestion.
When both sets of parents visited this summer, we gave them our room so they could experience the shower (and also not climb stairs).
You mean tapping you to see if you’re ready to eat yet?
I don’t have a bath often, but when I do, if I have the time I love to take a small newspaper in with me, to read and/or work on the crossword - so unlike an electronic device or expensive book, it won’t hurt financially if I drop it. Old paperbacks are also good for this. Perhaps even with a glass of wine or beer. I can happily spend up to an hour in there without getting too cold, no refills needed - admittedly it’s not my ideal temperature after that long, but it probably helps that my wife likes baths that are scalding to me, so by the time she gets out, not only is the water down to how I like it, but the air in our (small) bathroom is also warm and humid.
When we installed a new bath 3 years ago we deliberately chose a long and wide model, to really have room to stretch out, hang the expense of the hot water. It’s also big enough to accommodate both of us simultaneously, though this doesn’t happen often.
I’m not so sure. Many years ago I worked for a company in the UK which made test equipment for phones (all corded then, of course), and IIRC the standard line voltage was 60V and the ringtone voltage was 90V.
Both high enough to do some damage if you’re wet. Of course that was long ago and in the UK; I don’t know what the values are today (or in other countries like the US: never thought to put a meter on a phone line)…
As for showers, I’m a bath guy. The thing about showers is they never get your feet properly clean. IMHO, of course…
Mr VOW and I are back in SCal until after the first of the year. Before we left AZ, I nagged him into taking a soak in his special tub. It made the long drive from AZ to SCal a little bit more comfortable for him. I bet he really misses it now.
