My son drinks a concoction like this when he has a sore throat. I’m not sure what ratio he uses, but he says it really helps when he has a cold.
I can confirm your confirmation. In a thread about sinus problems someone recommended apple cider vinegar but said they diluted it with something else. I thought that would just prolong the drinking of it so I took a shot of it. Oh the burning! I did feel it up in my sinuses though. But I felt nauseous for a couple hours afterwards and it took a while for my throat to stop burning.
I used to drink olive and pickle juice as a kid but the idea doesn’t appeal to me anymore.
She’s made this, too, as well as a cinnamon and a lemon. The lemon was a bit too tart, IMO.
And Hunter, I’ll tell her about the champagne vinegar.
I do a shot of cider vinegar to stop hiccups. Works every time.
I disconfirm your confirmation. I used to do small shots of apple cider vinegar all the time when I was a kid, up through my mid-twenties or so. At some point, I lost the habit of drinking it straight, but I still love the taste of it.
I’m also a big fan of Clamato.
I just read an letter in a doctor’s column that runs in our daily paper. Somebody wrote in to say that drinking pickle juice (which is, of course, vinegar) has some medical benefit, but I don’t remember what it was. He had never heard of it, but judging by this thread, maybe he should consider himself educated.
I thought I was just strange… good to hear I’m not alone. I don’t actually drink it straight, but I’m hooked on the bottom of a salad bowl… sip it up like milk after the cereal. Italian Vinagrette or Balsamic, usually but I also love the really vinegary cayenne pepper sauces.
I was making Balsamic, Tomato, Garlic, and Onion salads pretty regularly this Summer in big batches. They’d sit for a day or two in the fridge marinating, and I swear the vinegary juice left over is a curative.
Did I just see Alton Brown doing a commercial for Welch’s and touting the antioxidant properties of polyphenols?
Well, that didn’t take long… Can’t believe Alton is peddling juice like a snakeoil salesman.
Here in Japan “drinking vinegar” can be found at just about any supermarket and plenty of specialty stores. Many different varieties from different sources are available, such as grape or apple. However, It’s considered more of an old fogey’s drink. In fact, I can’t say I have ever met anybody from my generation or younger expressing any love for the stuff. As with most everything here, “It’s really good for your health,” they say.
Personally, I’ve never tried the stuff, it’s usually kind of pricey. Maybe I’ll pick up a bottle on my way home and give it a sip.
Well, YMMV, but that won’t convince me or ultrfilter to try it again.
You made be interested in Fire Cider.
Sorta product hunting intensive, but, worth it, IMHO.
I enjoy the brine from pickles and olives. I also salt lemon slices or halves and suck them. This has led to many odd looks from servers when I remove the lemon wedge from my iced tea, salt it down, and then bite into it.
Are you me?
I used to occasionally go to a bar and order a shot of tequila just so I could get the lemon wedge & salt. I realized I don’t need the tequila part.
I don’t drink vinegar because the medical websites warn that it can erode the enamel on your teeth, but I’ve had great success using diluted cider vinegar as a hair rinse.
