Only problem with heels is that on sandwich loaf bread, they are thinner than the regular slices. I like crust on my bread, so heels are great, but they’re never the right thickness, at least the brands I buy. As for “real” loaves of crusty bread, I love to cut a nice, thick heel for an open faced sandwich.
I’ve been forgoing sliced bread altogether and just buying rolls. In that case, they’re all heels.
I don’t understand the distinction you’re making here.
Like a few others, for me it depends on what kind of bread. Wonder-style bread like the pic in the OP, maybe for toast. Crustier or chewier breads, it’s the best part.
I tried these - they are just two heels.
Oh yeah, that’s one of my favorite parts.
I bake my own bread and go out of my way to have a dense, chewy crust. The ends are hell on my TMJ but so worth it.
Absolutely! And on fresh baked bread I eat the heels first - the crustier the better!
Not only do I not eat them, I dont eat the pieces next to the end either. In fact, I routinely reach past the first several slices to grab a pair from closer to the middle of the loaf. Nice and soft, plus more likely to be the same size and shape for a more perfect looking sandwich. I can’t be the only one who does this. Before anyone freaks out, there is no waste…plenty of other people in the house don’t care.
When she was little, my daughter referred to them as the “elbows”. Not sure where she picked that up, as no one else I know referred to them as such.

You eat banana peels? :dubious:
Sure, but when I was a kid I wouldn’t have done it on a bet.
