Do you enjoy wrapping presents?

I’m terrible at it, so I don’t enjoy it. DH with his art degree is the official wrapper in our house. I always say that part of his present is to mock my crappy wrapping jobs on his stuff!

I don’t. My efforts at gift wrapping look like a drunken chimpanzee wrapped the presents.

I’m actually a little surprised at how this poll’s turning out. For some reason I expected to be in the minority.

Don’t hate it or like it, but I am pretty good at it. It’s just another a chore like doing the dishes.

I enjoy wrapping a few gifts. Unfortunately, between my hubby’s gifts, and gifts for our three kids, I usually end up wrapping dozens.

It’s really a logistics thing, though, because when we lived near a major mall, the mall always had ‘free’ gift wrapping there. I’d take all my gifts, and wrap them myself, using their paper, huge counters, automatic cutters (the paper was on rolls like aluminum foil or something), tape dispensers, etc.

The gift-wrap center was actually a fund raiser for Toys for Tots, so I’d wrap all my gifts, make a donation to the cause, and then hang around for a couple of hours to wrap other gifts, too.

I make the whole at-home wrapping experience more bearable by:
Clearing a large section of floor
Having tape and scissors close by
Buying wrapping paper that has the kind of pattern that makes it easier to cut straight (more or less)
Watching something on TV that is festive but that I know so well I don’t actually have to be watching it
A good glass of wine

Bingo – I’m good at it and my wife isn’t, so it falls to me. There’s plenty she has to do that I don’t particularly want any part of, so the system works.

I love it. I’ve done it as a volunteer a few times to raise money for a no-kill animal shelter.

It was fun, raised money, and let people off the hook who hate to do it!

Wrapping is one of my worst skills.

I just have a hard time getting the final product to look good. But you can believe that they will not come unwrapped without the use of tools.

I make up for the lack of finesse with creative notes on the card that identifies the recipient and giver.

I enjoy it, as long as I’m not dealing with something too difficult to wrap. I’d say I’m a step above average at wrapping, but I can’t do anything really fancy.

My dad can’t wrap a gift to save his life. Every Christmas Eve when I come home, he directs me to the pile of presents in the guest room. And yes, he has actually had me wrap my own gift before.

I do. Ever since my parents learnt this about me a few years ago, that’s been my job during the Christmas season. Just like copying out the Christmas letter in cards to every relative we have. (Yes, longhand. Typed letters tucked into the card are impersonal.) I find this sort of mindless task relaxing.

I enjoy wrapping presents. I enjoy selecting wrapping papers that somehow related to the gift inside, or coordinating different holiday wraps for a bunch of presents. I enjoy tying ribbons and making bows. I enjoy the challenge of wrapping oddly shaped presents.

One of the things poverty has robbed me of is the enjoyment I get from wrapping presents, because I have no money to buy presents to give people. :frowning:

You know, since you enjoy wrapping, and are good at it, a gift you could give to a select few people is to wrap their Christmas gifts for them! I mean it! I’ve got a ton of gifts to wrap (OK, I don’t have a ton yet, but by Christmas Eve, I will!) and if a friend came to me and said “I’d love to buy you something this year, but we’re just too broke! But hey! If you’ll supply the paper and ribbons, what I’d like to do is give you the gift of time. You can use the time you’d usually spend wrapping gifts to do something nice for yourself, and you’ll get the gifts back, wrapped and pretty!”

I’d so go for that!

If I lived near you I’d go for it. Unfortunately, most of my friends are in the same boat I am. We’ll spend time with each other this Christmas, and we’ll be having a little feast, but no gift exchange.

Well, I’ve been broke, and lemme tell ya, I know it sucks! But if you’ve got friends to spend time with, and some food for a little feast, you’ve got the basics covered!
