Do you fly the flag in front of your house?

On national holidays. We leftists can be patriotic too.

No. I wasn’t raised to place any importance or emotional attachment to flags.

In my case, I picked “sometimes” because I don’t fly it in poor weather, and I don’t fly it when we’re not in residence (I am the queen of my home, I guess). But I considered picking “always” in the sense that I always do when I’m home and the weather is good.

We do for the special holidays. It was my FILs flag and he served in The Navy. It reminds me of him and I always smile when I put it out.

At holidays and then it comes down at sunset, as it should unless you have a spotlight on it at night.

Do you spotlight it at night and take it down when it rains?
:dubious:

I didn’t ask, because I didn’t want this to turn into a Pit thread or a right/wrong thread. I also didn’t ask about why someone does or doesn’t, because some folks can’t resist a righteous dig.

Flying the flag on certain occasions (July 4th, Memorial, etc.) was very common when I was growing up, and it carried some meaning. Nowadays it’s everywhere: businesses, pickup trucks, you name it. It’s a practice that - as with most things that become ubiquitous - tends to cheapen the sentiment. Have a nice day.

I clicked other options. The last house I owned had a big flag pole in the front (which a previous owner put in) and we always flew the flag. The configuration of my current townhouse does not lend itself to mounting a flag so I don’t.

My father wasn’t outwardly overly patriotic and this is what we did. He put it out on occasions. In the 70s we had a Betsy Ross flag.

Yes, our flag has a light on it at night, and since it is nylon the flag code allows us to leave it up when it rains.

I don’t think flying the flag all the time “cheapens the sentiment” and we don’t fly the flag because we forgot what country we live in. I certainly encourage those who feel strongly about NOT flying the flag or NOT standing during the anthem or whatever to express their opinions. I don’t encourage the ones who don’t even think about it one way or the other. Giving thought to what one supports or does not support is pretty important, IMHO.

I have a flag but no flagpole. We live so far out in the sticks that not even the neighbors would see it if we did fly it. When I was a kid, my parents would sometimes fly the flag on certain holidays: Flag Day, July 4, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day.

Can’t see polls on Tapatalk.

No, I feel one of the virtues the flag symbolizes is endurance through difficult times.

I wouldn’t even know where to obtain a flag.

No. I don’t like the flag enough to want it decorating my house.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear. I’m talking about seeing the flag everywhere, every day, no matter what the venue. People seem to think it proves their patriotism or something, and after awhile it’s just background noise.

Yep, on a diagonal pole from the front of the house. 24/7/365, except when it gets really windy and might bend the bracket. Looks good.

Weather permitting we put it out on angled pole by the door on the 4th of July. Other days sometimes.

A Flag Store opened in a local mall a few years ago. I was surprised when I saw it, less surprised when it was gone three months later.
