Just wondering, in light of the dust-up over Kapaernik. My wife puts the flag out on certain days, including Labor Day, Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day. We ignore things like Patriots’ Day and the like.
I tried but got tired of unwrapping it from the pole so I gave up.
Nope. I don’t find it difficult to remember what country I live in; I assume my neighbors don’t need the reminder, either.
We don’t fly Old Glory, we fly the Jolly Roger 24/7/365.
Exactly what I was going to post.
Cheeky. We fly it in remembrance of people past who seriously defended the country’s principles, not as uber patriots. I probably wouldn’t bother, but my wife finds it comforting somehow.
No flag at home, but on our pontoon boat (The Lucky Dog) we fly the dog paw flag and the Sint Maarten courtesy flag.
I’m the first person to vote “Yes, always.”
Yes, 24/7, lighted at night. So do several neighbors.
I voted other. I’m in an apartment and if I had a home I would not fly a flag. However, I do not mind:
– ONE,
– MEDIUM OR SMALL
– AMERICAN FLAG.
Anything else is tacky. I think flower/bee flags are tacky, organizational flags are tacky, I guess flags from other countries are okay if you’re an expat living in America. But multiple flags or large flags (big enough that they are or should properly be on a pole) are automatically tacky, with the exception of a flagpole for a genuine mansion.
I wasn’t sure how to vote. We fly the US flag in fair weather when we are at our house; it’s jaunty and it’s something people do at the beach. I don’t want to sound flippant about it being just a “beachy decor item” but I need to be truthful that there’s an element of that in there as well. I also like to fly the flag in general support of the US flag and what it stands for.
We never display a flag at our apartment because there isn’t a logistical way of doing it.
You didn’t ask, but I am 100% in support of Kaepernick, or anyone, choosing not to stand, salute, or otherwise participate in flag-related things. The whole point is that it’s an option, not a mandate.
No, never. I stand for the anthem at baseball games, but get why someone wouldn’t and absolutely support that decision. I was at the Chicago jazz festival this weekend and they started each day at the main stage with a performer playing the anthem, most stood, some didn’t and the world continued to spin.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Union Flag flied in anyone’s garden for the sake of it, anyone who did would be looked askance as some type of nationalist BNP/EDL nutter.
When it’s the world cup or euro…cup thing there’s occasionally the Cross of St. George on display, but I care about football like I care about the daily routine of rocks.
Once we sold our boat, we no longer owned a flag. Before we had our siding replaced, there was a bracket to hold a small flag attached to one of the front porch supports, installed by the previous owners.
When I was a kid, my dad had put a flagpole on our front lawn, and we raised and lowered it daily, except in bad weather. Dad was a Marine, and he taught us the proper way to fold it. I don’t know if there’s still a flagpole at their house - Dad died 14 years ago and I don’t know of Mom has ever bothered with a flag since.
I don’t fly any flag. Others do it sufficiently, and sometimes excessively. I am a patriot, but not a super-, love-it-or-leave-it patriot. I don’t need a constant reminder of what country I’m in.
My parents did when I was a kid, for all American-centric holidays, or other days of national mourning/pride.
I don’t own a flag, or a flagpole.
I am proud of my country. But I’m not particularly proud of many of the people I often see ostentatiously displaying their patriotism.
The spinning pole shown hereis excellent at not tangling the flag. The flags from this company are very nice too and fairly long wearing.
So far there are only two “Yes, always” votes but there are others who said they did so; did they not vote or is this poll defective?
I fly the flag on the Big Holidays. It reminds me of being a kid and I like that.
Nope. Back in the 80s as a college student stateside I’d hang a PUR flag on my apartment wall or on the inside of a window but that was about it.
Though I’m all fine with people flying from their private property that which pleases them, be it Rainbow flags, state flags, ancestral-country flags, organizational flags, dog-lover flags, signal flags indicating your house is dragging anchor, or a banner of arms of your family signaling that you are home.
How funny that shortly after posting here, I saw a vid my sis just posted on FB from Mom’s house with the flag flying.
