Do you get mad at video games?

I was playing Call of Duty: United Offensive, yesterday and one thing always bugs me. During the final battle at the train station in Kharkov, you have to put up with a lot of things, not the least of which are incessant stuka runs. The problem is, after a while it seems pretty obvious that the damn stukas are only trying to kill one thing: you. If you save the game the moment someone yells out a stuka is coming, the stuka will likely drop a bomb on your head. Reload and move somewhere forward or back. The stuka will still probably drop a bomb on your head. You can actually see it alter it’s fight path to try to hit you.

Rather breaks the illusion that you’re just a single soldier in a big war, when all the stukas are trying to kill YOU in particular.

Well, you can’t blame them: if I was the enemy, I too would want to kill that guy that keeps respawning every time I kill him!

I get so mad at my teammates in the COD games that I try to get them killed just to get them out of the way. If you’re hiding in a building, you push them outside one by one, so they’ll get sniped and won’t bock your retreat if you need to back off in a hurry.

I guess that’s why I don’t play online

True, but according to the rules, you don’t actually die. You die and then go back in time to an arbitrary point where you’re still alive.

So while you experience death a lot, the enemy just sees a soldier who just happens to know every ambush is coming.
