I sing all the time, too. Since people pointed it out, I sing a lot less (more self-conscious), but it’s still pretty often. I make up songs for my cats, too. My current song for my cat is Featheroni Baloney, all covered in cheese.
The voice in my head hums in the middle of the night, but for the life of me I don’t recognize the tune.
Moving this from IMHO to Cafe Society.
I’m about like this, too. All my life I’ve heard my own soundtrack in my head, all the time. Usually it’s my own music playing back to me so I can either work on a song or enjoy the ones that I’ve finished.
Pretty rare that I get a single song stuck in my head, tho, unless I’m just currently consumed with some new tune I’m working on.
You’d fit right in at our house. All the animals have theme songs, sometimes several.
Wait… you mean some animals don’t have theme songs?
Mao had her own song that I sang her all the time; so did Graham.
My cat Lucky’s song is “Lucky! Lucky Cat!” kinda to the tune of Hungry Jack. He meows whenever I pause to try and think something up for the “gobbles them up and the plate comes back for-” part, as if he knows I need a second and he’s covering for me.
Hell, my cat Bubeleh had a whole 4 part suite… used to take me hours to get thru it.
Making theme songs for all the animals we have would be a pretty tall order (we board horses).
Right now: California Nights and Sugar Town.
Always. I am a walking jukebox.
It’s pretty constant for me. Often it will be the same song over and over, and the only way to cure this is to listen to the song, which I do at my first convenience.
Crazycatlady and I were watching This is Spinal Tap a few nights ago, and we both agreed that for a band of actors assembled for a fake documentary, it’s amazing how often those songs get stuck in my head. I wonder how my patients would react if they knew that while they were talking to me, I was thinking, “My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo…”
So, from what’s here, it seems that more people have constant soundtracks than not. Unless only the soundtrack people are answering. Still, it seems to be a lot more common than DangerDad had thought. Thanks for answering, and keep 'em coming!
I have it but it’s not constant. Whenever I’m concentrating on something, the music stops because I have no brain power left for it. It is very prominent when I’m zoning out though such as doing exercise, housework, or other physical activities. Sometimes I abandon the music in these situations in favour of a trip to fantasy land. Fantasy land is similar to the soundtrack except it’s images and situations running through my head rather than music.
Absolutely constant. Right now, it’s Hollaback Girl, due to a thread title on here.
Earlier, when I went outside briefly, I noticed I had TMBG’s cover of “Why Does The Sun Shine”. That made me giggle a little.
Always. And if I shut my eyes and focus on it, it has full instrumentation. I play keyboards by ear, so this has been a handy trait.
The best thing is that I can “listen to” an entire album in situations like while in an MRI, on the road, etc. without benefit of headphones…
Yeah, I pretty much have a personal Muzak system playing in my head at all waking hours. Of course, it’s not Muzaky Muzak - it’s the original recordings. Sometimes it’s songs that I’ve listened to recently or that something made me think about. However, I also seem to have a “default” soundtrack that just plays sometimes. It’s the same few songs over and over when I don’t have anything “better” stuck in my head and I need the background music. The Smiths’ “Reel Around the Fountain” is one, as is Destiny Child’s “Jumpin’ Jumpin’” (I’m not a fan of their music, but that’s not even the best DC song!).
Heh, this happens to me too. It’s like my mind can read my mind!
That’s exactly what it’s like!
Absolutely. Sometimes it’s the last song I heard. Sometimes I am reminded of a bit of lyric. Sometimes it’s something I wish I could hear.
I got Rolling Stones: Hot Rocks I recently, so I have 40-year old Stones tunes in my head these days. Man, good stuff…
FWIW: I almost always have music playing in my head.
Me too. I wonder why this is?
Cause we’re so lucky. Lucky, lucky, lucky.
Oh, thanks so much. Now Kylie Minogue is in my head.
