We have a five-year plan for our house and finances that we are two years into. It is coming along well so far - maybe a little behind plan on the house repairs. As for careers, we don’t have five-year plans for our careers so much; we’re pretty much winging it with those, and it basically shows.
Last 5 year plan: Go back to college and get a real degree, get a better job, make a lot more money, get married, buy a fancy car, buy a house, and have a child.
I got a BS in Comp Sci, am now a software engineer (from administrative assistant), have more than doubled my salary in 3 years, have been married for over 2 years, have been enjoying my Audi for almost 2 years, have been loving my home for almost 2 years, and my son was born last November.
Damn. I could cry right now.
I think I need to start thinking about my next plan.
Five years from now I’d like to be writing for the New York Times, or for one of a couple of magazines. And I’d like to finish at least one of the novels I’m working on. I’ll be pretty disappointed in myself if I don’t manage at least the second one- five years to get to some of those places might be pushing it, but I’d at least like to make substantial progress in that direction.
