We’ve all seen on Seinfeld the people named for their quirks-the low-talker, the close-talker, the man-hands etc. Do you have an odd quirk (not something too common) that could be used to describe you?
I realized recently that I am an incorrigible Gift-Explainer. I am incapable of giving somebody a gift and remaining silent while they open it. I simply must explain why I bought it, why I though they might like/need it, why I didn’t buy something else, what in their wardrobe I thought it might complement etc. What’s your title?
I’m a conversation-ender. Either on my own or in a group, we’ll fall into awkward silence not knowing what to say a few minutes after I’ve entered the conversation. It’s sad really… but there it is.
I can’t let a blatant falsehood go in casual conversation, I have to debunk it.
“Yea man do you know everyone has like 30 years worth of meat fecal matter compacted in their intestines? Like humans are mostly festering rotting meat, that is why I’m a vegetarian!”
“Yea ok lets start at biology 101 and go down until you see how wrong you are…”
I wish I could do that. I feel really bad confronting someone about their long held beliefs.
I once tried to explain to someone why “changing 10% of art makes it new” is a myth, and the look they gave me was so scathing and yet heartbreaking I was frightened off doing that kind of thing again.
I wish I could stop doing it, but I feel a compulsion to. ONLY if a blatant lie is claimed as fact, not opinion or anything.
Most recently I was having a discussion where someone trotted out the Charles Drew myth, that the black discoverer of plasma was denied life saving treatment by white doctors because he was black. I went as far as grabbing a tablet and showing online cites that it is bullshit, like so:
