My mother, my younger brother, all aunts and uncles except one (we comfort each other fairly often) *and *my grandmother are all teapartiers. (I’m sorry, I just can’t call my dearest Memaw a teabagger. My brain won’t do that.)
This is one of the reasons I try my hardest not to be around my family any more.
It’s actually not a new thing, it’s a theory that goes back almost 100 years. That oil is just a strange seepage from the center of the Earth. The primary reason aside from its lack of scientific basis that it fell out of popular support is oil companies found that it did not help them find any new reserves at all.
That’s always the counterargument I have for such claims, if they were legitimate oil companies would be using them as the basis for oil exploration.
And here’s where my mom’s fundyness comes in to join the teaparty; her rebuttal is that “we’re not walking right with God now, so He’s hiding the seepages from the world until we repent.”
I don’t know if it makes me happier or sadder to know that first part is actually a *real *(ahem) theory, and not my mom’s addled brains.
