Do you know who I am? (IRL I mean)

In another thread **DianaG **said:

And that made me curious: Does anyone know who I am IRL? I don’t mind, I haven’t posted anything I’m ashamed of. And indeed, if you know me IRL and have followed any of my posts, you can *easily *figure it out. (You probably could anyway, but after the posts about my health issues, if you know me, you spotted my ID right off.)

If your location field is correct, than no, I don’t know who you are. If, instead, you live or recently lived in Oklahoma, then I suspect I found your name, address, phone number and your spouse’s name. Even if you aren’t the OK person, if I was a crazy internet loon trying to track you down, I’d be paying OK a visit - good reason in itself to keep your info private, I guess. The crazy person could mistake you for another John Smith three states away because your address was available online.

I haven’t gone back and looked at any of your posts to mine information. I’m sure if I wanted to be more accurate, I could get there. I’m more interested right now in fast.

I won’t reveal any of what I uncovered, right or wrong, of course.

Nope, but only because I’m not interested (no offense! ). If I were, I’m guessing I could track you down in about an hour. Seriously folks… you say something here that points to some other site, and then at that other site there’s information that leads somewhere else… it’s not hard at all for someone to find you, if they truly want to.

Nope, never lived in OK. And I’m single.

Alright then! The smartest two things you’ve done is make a dedicated SDMB email, so I can’t see that you’re JSmith@DeweyCheatumandHowe.com, and you’ve chosen a username which references a fairly popular book. My guess was based on a kadhaji at another website that you’ve mentioned going to a lot. That person was the OK person, had their first and last name referenced at that website, and was very easy to track down from there via Google.

So to find out any more, I’d have to go back and look for information in your previous posts. Maybe you’ve mentioned the name of your hospital (you’ve had lots of surgeries, that I remember off the top of my head) or a good sandwich joint nearby, or the school you graduated from. There’s all sorts of little giveaways, but as **DianaG **points out, one has to really care to put in the time and energy.

Still, I’m no Veronica Mars. She’d have your driver’s license number and the names of your childhood playground pals by now!

I think I’m going to shut this thread down. If you want to reveal your identity to others through email, I can’t stop you, but doing it here could start a bad precedent.
Sorry.
