I still think its a pretty cool movie.
I guess i’m a sucker for slick presentation but there remains an unmistakable quality about the production of this film- considering it was made before the moon landings it still manages to look quite modern. The sets and special effects hold a kind of balance between modern squeaky clean cgi and crappy but definately real stuff.
Some people have a problem with the long drawn out scenes set to classical music or the astronaut breathing but I like it. Like I said I’m a sucker for presentation but there’s a eyecatching mind tugging quality to them, they’re a real spectacle.
No doubt if it were released today it would be panned as a special effects dependent load of psychobabble but hey!
It’s alright so far, I guess.
Oh, you mean the movie. Yes, it does have a certain special, almost mystical quality to it that practically no other film has ever equaled. I hope and expect they’ll show it around here sometime soon (in cinemas where it belongs!)
It’s one of the greatest movies ever made.
And, it’s also being remastered presently for re-release this year, sometime.
So there’s no excuse for the younger folks to see it!
Yes. Best space movie of all time, bar none.
