I need coffee first thing in the morning, it’s like medicine, but after that I rarely drink hot drinks.
If I do have a hot drink, say with Brunch, it’s tea. Just English Breakfast tea bag, add a splash of mill and a teaspoon of sugar.
Iced tea is nice in the hot weather, particularly when working in the yard. If I make it with green tea I always squeeze some lemon juice into it. Half a lemon to a litre works about fine for me.
Huh. I’ve seen that happen in other links. Must be a bug in the SDMB software that removes the “:” because I certainly didn’t do it. Let’s try this:
The “tea snob” answer is that the water doesn’t flow through the ball as well as the basket infuser. The real answer is that I find the basket easier to clean out.
I used one for a while and I’d say bad idea, for multiple reasons:
It cooks the tea/coffee and eventually makes it bitter.
It’s hot (duh) and you will occasionally burn yourself (I did, anyway).
You gotta’ remember to turn it off.
I’d recommend a vacuum insulated mug with a lid. It’ll keep your tea/coffee hot for hours (I drink my tea over a few hours), it doesn’t cook it, and it’s environmental!
You joke but I’ve heard some people who really have a problem with this.
I don’t see it myself. The way I see it, you want water that’s been heated up to a high temperature. What differences does it make if it was heated by microwaves, an electric range, or an open flame?
For item 3, I’d put in on a timer, so it’s off when I’m not using it. Item 2 is a real severe drawback; I’m clumsy and so I’d very likely burn myself. But item 1 is the deal-killer. Thank’ee for your observations!
