I live in New York City. At this point, I enjoy the convenience of living here. I used to enjoy the music scene, playing in a band, going to shows, but I don’t really do it that much anymore. To get to work I can walk, ride my bike, take the bus, take the train, depending on my mood that day. I was able to find fairly interesting work that paid well in pretty short order. I like the variety of people and there is an abundance of beautiful women. A lot of the people I work with are from other parts of the world so it’s an interesting mix. Another thing I like about NYC is the anonymity. I like people not knowing about my business. I like the fact that its’ generally a pedestrian’s city. I love just walking around with my wife and checking people out, checking stores out, libraries, museums, restaurants, whatever we come across. When we’re tired, we hop on a bus or a train, and can get dropped within a couple blocks of our home. Our apartment faces a dead end street so there’s no loud traffic to speak of. There’s a lot to like about this place. When I go on vacation, I always like coming back.
What I don’t like about it, let’s see…I’m kind of a car person. I grew up in NJ and spent 7 years out in Colorado before I moved here and I just love hopping in the car and driving off to somewhere or nowhere. Needless to say, this is an awful place to keep a car. It’s either very expensive, or you have to deal with the million little annoyances of parking on the street. Speaking of the street, there is a multitude of horrible smells one encounters over the course of a day most of which have urine or vomit as it’s base. What else…we live in a medium sized studio apartment and can’t afford to live in a bigger apartment in the city. It’s just out of the question. The suburbs have no real appeal. What we can afford is a small house about 2 hours away in the Catskills so we’re going to get that going in the next couple of weeks and split our time between our apartment and the house. Our apartment is at sidewalk level and there’s no setback so we really can’t throw open the windows and let the sun shine in unless we want to show the world everything we’ve got.
I really can’t complain about the people. There are certainly alot of assholes but there are also alot of very fine people.
