Own about five, even though I don’t shoot much anymore due to the lack of safe places to shoot.
The one I have that is the most fun is a replica flintlock pistol. All sorts of things happen when you pull the tigger, and it is very accurate. For one shot it is about as deadly as anything today.
I have a muzzle loading, flintlock rifle that I demonstrate loading and firing at historical encampments. I fire only blank charges of black powder and have never even loaded a ball into it. (In fact until very recently I only carried lead balls of a much larger caliber, so that I couldn’t even accidentally get a ball in the barrel.)
But until I was fingerprinted for my CCW, there was no record of my fingerprints anywhere to compare them against for verification. Circular logic.
The only potential break for that circle would be if they ran my prints against the existing felon database to see if I were misrepresenting my identity. Which is again a logical dead end because if I were a felon, I wouldn’t be concerned with getting a permit to carry.
[Official and FINAL Last Chance]As stated in post #116, enforced in post #119 and repeated in post #130, THIS IS A POLL, NOT ANOTHER GUN DEBATE.
One more slip, and this thread gets closed, but not before the person responsible gets an official infraction notice.[/Official and FINAL Last Chance]
I have become the repository of firearms possessed by the previous four generations of my ancestors. Somewhere between 15 and 20 guns live here.
I only routinely use a .22 rifle, .22 target pistol, 12 ga. shotgun and .270 Winchester rifle. Choice of firearm depends on the type of varmint that needs removal.
This reminds me of when Louisiana tried to confiscate all guns soon after the Katrina disaster. My brother told me his plan for such a time: “Well, they’re all in that safe. Darn it, I’ve lost the keys! You all bring a forklift along with you?”
Moving thread from IMHO to Great Debates, and making note for future reference that it is apparently impossible for posters on this board to have a simple gun poll without the debate.
Own many guns and there was no boating accident, but I want to claim there was one so the gummit doesn’t know about them.
(Looks around sheepishly.) (Thinks to self: Did I just say that out loud?)
Well, it was tough for me to answer the poll; number one, as several others have pointed out, we don’t own a gun, we own a number of them. But also, there’s the fact that I, personally, do not own a gun. All the guns we have are my husband’s; at least one of them, he had when we began our relationship more than 25 years ago, more, he’s acquired since then. But I checked “yes” anyway, since there is one we specifically keep in a location accessible to me, and I practice with it every couple of months, just in case.
I have…3, maybe 4, all of which are kept off-premises for a variety of reasons:
.30-30 lever action hunting rifle (which kills a lot of paper)
a pair of .22 rifles of unknown manufacture (I inherited them)
And I think I have a .32 handgun (also inherited).
I’m not a big fan of looking to firearms for home defense as I think the vast majoriy of people overestimate their marksmanship abilities under pressure as well as their capacity to open fire on another human being.
And for the record, I consider myself a flaming left-winger and STILL think gun-safety should be part of high-school curriculum. I suppose stereotyping leftists as being advocates of gun bans makes about as much sense as suggesting righties are all religious nutjobs.
