My next dog will be named Askem.
Stranger: What’s his name?
Me: Askem

If I ever run out of animals to name my dogs after, and start going to novelty names, “The Other One” is top of my list.
I have a Luna - a black Lab (Cedarwoods Moon On Fire)
I had a horse named Spot, I showed him under In The Spotlight. He was a plain red horse with one tiny white fleck on his ribs.
According to the article below, the name Fido…
…became internationally iconic when a floppy-eared dog came into Abraham Lincoln’s life five years before he became President of the U.S.A. That dog was named Fido.
Lincoln didn’t keep Fido, and the poor dog was “assassinated” a year after Abe.

I had a stuffed animal as a kid named “Spot”, but I don’t think that counts (I was terribly unoriginal at naming stuffed animals).
I had a cat with that name back in my single days. My room mate and I would hold parties, and the girls would always ask “what’s the kittie’s name?” Some did - they were keepers!
A family in the neighborhood had a dog named “Dog” and a cat named “Cat.” The father’s name was “Guy” and IIRC, the compromise was that the mother named the children and the father named the pets.
OK, I just made up that last part. I really don’t remember why they did that.
I knew of a dog named Other. No idea why they named it that…maybe it was short for “The Other One”.
My dogs’ names are Dick and Jane. My kids Rover and Fido named them. Smart-ass kids.
As I recall, there really was a dog named Spot. It wasn’t spotted though.
I remember back when Fido was a popular name for a cat.
We had both The Other One and Not The Other One at one point. We were in denial that they were our cats, but what did we know.
Well, when you find a tiger-striped cat with 4 white paws, and the white doesn’t go much past the pads, what else are you going to name him/her?
(yes, me and my sibs chose that for the stray cat our family adopted when we were single-digit ages)
Same. But they spell it Diogi
Yeah, no idea how they spell it, just going by pronunciation.
Do they name their cats Sieiti?
I knew a cat named Rover, and he had that name even before he disappeared for six years and came back minus his boy parts. He lived to age 21.
My first dog, and best ever so far, was named Fido and lived to be 19.
I may have gone with McDowall.
Hey! I’m the one who makes the shitty animal names jokes, example: you get a new kitten, you name it Forman or Carlisle (This is our new Kitty, Forman. Ha, ha, ha, ha!). A Doberman: Gillis (This is our new Dobie, Gillis!) Don’t make me drag more out of the closet.
(McDowall is actually quite good.)
A friend named her female dog Karma, because Karma is a bitch.
I used to have a habit of naming pets for other animals - a small dog named “Mouse”, a tuxedo cat named “Penguin”.
My son-in-law got a choco-lab and named it “Cooper”. I asked how many barrels it had made today. Son-in-law did not get the reference.
My sister named her dog “Carrie”, which also happens to be the name of our cousin, who we are close to. A bit odd, if you ask me.
