Do you pick up trash outside?

Bumping this thread because I just went for a walk. On my way out I took a small trash item to toss in the can on the corner, but while I was walking I found a few other pieces that I picked up. Then I found a clean looking plastic shopping bag, so I put them all in that. When I reached my hiking trails I continued filling the bag, and then a second one I found.

Good god, how in this day and age are people littering this much?

I don’t believe I walked more than 30 seconds without finding something nearby to pick up. Would have been more if I’d taken a few steps off the trail. Ended up with two bags of trash and a big piece of styrofoam to dispose. Now my back hurts and I’m thinking of getting one of those claw things.

On second thought, f**k people. This isn’t my job. But I also don’t want to live in a sty.

I say again, f**k people. In the neck. No lube.

If you can’t trust people to do the smallest of stuff…

We brought a bag yesterday and cleaned up. Was nice to walk the dog this morning and not see the same trash.

Yeah, litter sucks, but I remember the litter levels of the 1960’s in the midwest USA and we are about 1000% or more improved since then, by my eye. Tossing one’s garbage (including household trash) out of automobile windows was a common practice.

Advertising campaigns involving a tearful italian-american dressed up like a native american seemed to help reduce the problem, strangely enough.

I find a lot of good shit on my walks. Off the top of my head:

6" tall George Jetson figurine.
Gerber Hunting knife (with fur/blood on it).
Thermos kids cup.
Car emergency kit.
2-3 dozen 7/8" nuts. Looked like a truck had taken the corner with an open tool door. If anybody needs any…

We live close to a really, really nice park. I walk my dog in it every day. I’ve taken to bringing extra poop bags, and picking up after lazy people, and picking the tiny pieces of paper that all the picnickers leave behind. I like to see the park pristine.

I used to carry extra bags with me to pick up trash if I were taking a walk or even just running errands.
I’ve lost the ability to bend over multiple times in a day so alas I have to adjust to the trash.
I will occasionally pick up bits and bobs if I am feeling frisky.
