Rick Perry’s supporters don’t even think Rick Perry has much of a chance right now. He’s polling horribly in South Carolina, which is where he’s staking his campaign. He’ll drop out after a 5th place finish there.
To answer the OP, no.
All of the other candidates would have to somehow die, either individually or in the same accident which reaches a number statistically so absurd as to be impossible.
If you are one who believes in infinite parallel universes then the answer is maybe.
At one of the debates this weekend, Perry said he would send U.S. soldiers back to Iraq. Since the Iraqi government doesn’t want them there, this amount to proposing a reinvasion of Iraq. It’s tough to imagine a dumber idea than this, and it’s an incredibly dumb proposal because practically nobody supports it on either side of the aisle.
No. To those of us that already knew him, the fact he surged at any point was a complete surprise and obviously unsustainable. Now that the entire country knows what a boneheaded doofus he is, the notion he might manufacture some sort of a comeback is at best laughable.
I just hope these mysterious voters that elected him to so many terms already have finally opened their eyes as to what a weak-minded person he really is. Seriously, enough is enough. Get this chicken fried Wink Martindale of governors the hell out of [del]Dodge[/del] Austin.
Fred Thompson seemed like a viable candidate, but certainly a novelty (due to being mostly a celebrity for the last decade), and fell on his face like a beached dolphin that seemed, for a fleet instant, to have discovered the ability to walk upright.
Perry is a lifelong politician, the longest serving governor in the nation’s history, had just resoundingly defeated a well-respected establishment challenge, and his entrance essentially sent other candidates scurrying for cover (especially Pawlenty who bailed entirely). Once in the race, though, he didn’t just fall on his face, he’s pounding the bedrock as if his eyebrows are a legitimate substitute for fracking fluid.
He’s the longest serving governor in Texas history, not U.S. history.
My mistake. Beg pardon.
Does scoring a solid 1% in the NH primary count as the beginning of the Perry comeback? God, I hope so. I could use the laughs.
With the exception of the Freudian slip **Marley **pointed out, this is an excellent post. Well done.
If they rounded down to 1%, yes. If they rounded up, no.
What did Wink Martindale ever do to you?
Seems a reasonable proposition. . . A Perry comeback. . . But, he had his chance and blew it. I don’t think it’s likely. Just like the many debates lifted Gingrich, they buried Perry. I think he’ll realize he can’t win and he’s wasting all his supporter’s money and he’ll drop out, after SC.
Maybe on Bizarro World!
I don’t think Perry would be eligible for the presidency on Bizarro World. He’s a natural born citizen, after all.
Looks like Perry’s dropping out, effective today. Recent polls in SC have shown his support there in the 3-4% range, which pretty much explains why.
And no, he’s not gonna try again in 2016. He may be dumb, but not that dumb.
We have not yet plumbed the depths of his dumb.
Mmmm, kinda poetic!
Oh, what a fool I’ve been. I had begun to think that Rick Perry wasn’t such a total loser that the GOP would consider him as a possible non-Romney once more.
I also thought that he’d try again in 4 years (assuming a GOP loss), but it really seems like he’s content to be the idle king of Texasland.
“Newt is not perfect, but who among us is,” Mr. Perry said. “The fact is, there is forgiveness for those who seek God. And I believe in the power of redemption, for it is a central tenet of my Christian faith.”
Now where have I heard the like recently… oh yeah, Haley Barbour.
From the quoted article: “But it is important to remember, that only 4 percent of all South Carolina likely voters said they were supporting Rick Perry to begin with.”
No kingmaker for you.
I’m late to this thread. Yeah, I think he might be poised for a comeback. Don’t lose faith!
As a country singer/songwriter, perhaps.
