do any of you think that they will still sell the clothes or do you think the 99 cent store owners will stop selling them. Keep in mind hardly any one looks at the clothes and they are really crap now. I have tons of clothes from the 99 cent stores that I started purchasing in December 2007 for $.99 and $1.29. I dont buy any more clothes from these stores because I have tons and dont need any more and every thing that I have is hung up or folded and is neat and organized. All the clothes I have purchased when I was buying are in great shape and look like they came from expensive stores. Any way now I noticed when you go to these 99 cent stores the clothes are all stained, torn, or just plain awful - they arent what they used to be.

For a little historical perspective… do you know how Motel 6 got its name? Originally, when the chain first began, their rooms cost just 6 dollars a night.
They still keep that name, but obviously it’s been a long time since their rates were that cheap!
The question is, does management of a store with “Dollar” or “99 Cents” in its name really feel it’s essential to keep all of its merchandise at a price of one dollar or less. At some point, it seems inevitable that they’ll have to raise prices on at least some items… and that the store’s name will become just a forgotten part of its history- just like “Motel 6.”
to astorian I know about Motal 6. But are you saying that these clothes that sell for $.99 and $1.29 will be raised to higher prices (like around $5.00 a pop) or that they will not sell them any more.
…or “five and ten cent stores”/“five and dimes”, which stopped selling anything for 5 or 10 cents long before they more or less disappeared.
In a way, the 99 cents stores and their equivalents in other currencies are just the modern rebirth of the five and dime.
I’m guessing they’ll raise prices, and after a while, people will learn not to take the store name literally.
to astorian I agree. I really think they will raise every thing in the store. They already have on many items. I see appliances that used to be sold for $4 are now $35. So I have a feeling that the clothes will be raised to $5 on each clothing item or they will stop selling the clothes. When I was buying the clothes full force I used to have to grab everything immediately because I would be competing with other women, but now I see no one (or hardly any one) looks at the clothes. I dont buy clothes any more there, I have tons, dont need any more and in addition the clothes now are crap.
