Do you think those two chipmunks from the Looney Tunes cartoons were a gay couple?

Actually…
My mom did one of her college research papers on cartoons when she went back to get her bachelors. The early Tex Avery and Warner Bros. cartoons were written with an adult audience in mind. So I find it highly believeable that Mach and Tosh were intentionally written as a gay couple.

As for the rest…yes I agree. Bert and Ernie are non-sexual, as are Bananas in Pajamas, and Chip and Dale have clearly been written as heterosexual.

'nuf sed.

I think this whole debate is bigoted. For shame! Debating the sexual orientation of others! What’s next? A fight between Richard Simons and some other fey seeming guy?! Where do you homophobic bigots get off anyway?!

(Brought to you by the folks in support of Needs2know.)

Personally, I think you’re all gay. So there! Now, stop being silly and having fun and debate the merits of public TV or something intelligent!

Well if the Goofy Gophers would just 'fess-up, no one would care. Everyone seems to accept Betty Boop’s relationship with her boyfriend Bimbo. And they say a dog’s a MAN’s best friend, sheeesh.

Byz, are there any??

Well, no. But I was trying to be supportive. But I turned out just to be a silly, bigoted bitch. Sigh. I try soooo hard to be nice. Guess I should just accept that it’s nice to be hard!

I concur. I read somewhere that those bits where Bugs Bunny puts on a wig and a dress and Elmer Fudd, who had been trying to kill him, falls in love with him (disturbing in so many ways-and I mean that as the highest compliment) were taken from gay nightclub acts of the time.
On the other hand it is pretty disturbing (and I mean that in a bad way) that somebody would imagine some three year old watch teletubbies and musing “Tinky Winky is purple. The color of gay pride. He has a purple triangle. The symbol of Gay Pride. He is carrying a bag, which, though hardly know what sex I am yet, I know is effeminate. I like Tinky Winkly. Perhaps homosexuality is a viable alternative lifestyle, which I will therefore experiment with or at least vote for special rights for in fifteen of twenty years.”

Wasn’t a minor muppet retired after Jim Henson died? My understanding was that they weren’t going to make any new Bert & Ernie skits (Henson did Ernie), but would continue to show previously filmed ones. True or false?

Mac and Tosh are two of my favorites.

“Might you have a pin on you?”
“I might, I just might…”
“May I borrow it for a moment?”
“Certainly.”
“You’re sure it’s no trouble?”
“No, no, not at all!”
“You’re quite sure?”
“Quite.”
“Thannnnnnnnnnnnnnnk you.”
“No, no - thannnnnnk you!”

The only Muppet I know of that was retired was Scooter. He was retired when his operator died, but it wasn’t Jim Henson.

OK, is anyone besides me of the opinion that Warner Bros needs to institute a “create your own DVD” program where you could sign on to a web site, pick the cartoons you want, and they would print up a DVD and ship it out to you?

For example, I would love to get a DVD featuring all the Goofy Gopher shorts. Where can I get one?

On a related topic, where can I find a site that would recommend good collections of old cartoon shorts to buy on DVD? The videocassettes I see at Target seem kind of cheesy and low-quality to me.

anyone who has seen wizard of oz as an adult can attest to this: the tin man is gay. no question about it.
