Do you trust teenage drivers?

I don’t trust any other drivers, really. There are plenty of versions of stupid out there, of which teenagerism is but one.

Makes me think of my undergrad uni in Texas. It was almost like an annual tradition, the greenhorn freshman getting drunk and killing himself in a car wreck at the beginning of each school year. One year two greenhorn freshman in a car managed to ram into not just any old tree but officially the biggest tree on campus. Both died.

DrCube’s Law: 95% of everything is shit.

This includes teenage drivers, adult drivers, message boards posts, traffic laws, beer and women. Also men and children. As well as everything else.

Now get off my lawn, even though it’s mostly crap.

Now, women drivers. Don’t even get me started!

IMO <— note

Like pilots, drivers, etc., there are some awesome women operators.

The rest are very bad.

When it comes to these kinds of things, they are either very good or very bad. They do not do average well.

I haven’t found it with a quick google, but I remember reading a study that showed places with higher driving ages don’t have fewer accidents. If anything the ones they have are more severe. In places with a later driving age, by the time people are allowed to drive there’s more pressure on them to do so in more difficult conditions (e.g. to get to work), and they end up facing those with less experience to draw on.

Once upon a time there was a slogan (perhaps an insurance company?) that went something like “watch out for the other guy.” I always thought that was sound driving safety advice.

Nope, or their parents or their grandparents. The women are the worst, except for the men.

At what age is it ok to start fucking them under your plan

I think that many people, myself included, can be lousy drivers, but the one I look to avoid most ar those who won’t HANG UP THE DMAN PHONE and drive. I hate the shit out of tailgaters too, because I get a V8 truck behind my Pontiac and i am afraid of being squished because god forbid that there be any space beteen me and him.

Hell no. Yesterday I heard someone on TV say that 1 in 5 teenagers will die in a car crash.

I think he meant “of teenagers who die, 1 in 5 will be from a car crash”, but still. Why take chances? I’m staying away from those teenaged drivers.

Absolutely, if the teenagers were raised in rural areas where they were likely to experience driving dirt bikes, four-wheelers, tractors, or other off-road experiences. In city conditions not as much. Teenagers weaned on video games have fantastic reaction times, and so long as they aren’t holding a cell phone in one hand and the wheel in the other, they have reflexes and judgement far superior to that of most of our 70+ seniors with 50 years of driving experiences but degrading synapses. I’ve never seen anyone so unpredictable as the senior Buick or Camry driver who fails to signal, cruises in the passing lane, takes wide lefts (Lefts!) or rides the brakes. I’d much rather share the road with quick and nimble video-game raised kids than distracted seniors.

Go, teens!

What I have been noticing a lot is teenagers + texting. It kind of amazes me how many people text while they drive, and they are mostly young folks.

QFT…

Or as George Carlin put it…
Ever notice that someone driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone driving faster than you is a MANIAC!

I dunno. Thinking back to me and my cohorts in West Texas, I could well believe it’s 1 in 5, period.

Defensive driving, it MAY keep you alive.

Yes, at 14 most farm kids have been operating machinery for years. I got my farm permit at 14. I drove farm equipment on the roads at that age legally. Before that I tried to stay on private roads. When I got my farm permit I drove large trucks. 2.5 to ten ton trucks. By that winter, I was driving semis hauling large farm equipment. IE, D-8 Caterpillars & large combines. While this is not the norm for farm kids it is not unusual.

My cousins also drove for the farm between the ages of 14 & 16. We did continue to drive for the farm, but we had regular licenses by that age. All of us passed the driving test the first time with flying colors. Only two of us had accidents that were from lack of experience before we were 21. Both were due to higher speeds.

My nieces and nephews got farm permits as well. My sons were just not mature enough for that responsibility. At 16 my youngest was ready for a license. At 18 my oldest was not. He has one now, I hope he is more responsible now.

Yes, teenagers (in general) have faster reflexes then us older folks. They also think that they will never die. Thus, they are less cautious. My cousins and I knew better, we had seen to many fatal accidents. If you want teenagers to be more careful, have them ride in an ambulance, or a wrecker that responds to traffic accidents, for a month or two. At 17 I hired out to a wrecking yard that picked up cars from accidents. My job was to drive the wrecker. This job made me aware that anyone can die. It does not even have to be your fault.

Sorry for the long post. I just could not shorten this anymore. 48.
