Do You Trust Your Government...

But, to use Derleth’s example, NOAA is the federal government. (It’s a uniformed service - how much more government can you get?)

I trust them……

…about as far as I can comfortably spit out a rat!

IOW; not at all

Douglas Adams put it best;
“The purpose of the President is NOT to wield power, but to draw attention AWAY from it”
“Anyone capable of being elected President should, ON NO ACCOUNT, be allowed to do the job”

I don’t think there is such a thing, “The Government”, and those who believe there is some identifiable monstrous entity out there have no understanding of how anything works, clearly.

All human societies need social structures of various kinds to get roads maintained, fires put out, menaces to the general good controlled, the indigent cared for, food tested for safety, books lent to anyone who wants them, children educated, borders protected from marauders, and many, many other things. Do I “trust” these institutions? Mostly yes. Do I trust elected politicians? I judge them one at a time, on their merits.

I also am a passionate believer in the importance of the fourth estate.

Just because you can ask a question doesn’t mean it makes sense.

Too many of ours have had members arrested and convicted of arson so …

One of the latest in a long line

I think quite a few people start out in life meaning well and can be trusted. But for whatever reason, big money and getting elected has many temptations that I think turns quite a few of these people bad. This is especially true at the federal level, the kind of money and time it takes to get elected, the vast majority are going to have rely on somebody else’s money, and with that money, buys influence and selling your soul. The feds I generally trust the least, the state, slightly more, but not by too much, the locals quite a bit more than that.

Also, just because it isn’t the question you want it to be doesn’t make it nonsensical
