Do you use a separate cleanser for your face than for your body?

I do mine separately before. I have my facial soap on the sink.

You use the same soap on your HAIR?! How on earth do you get up a leather?

Like Norinew, I wash my face with Noxzema (or the generic equivalent thereof). Have been for years. There’s a moisturizing version of it (purple label) that’s worth seeking out, esp in winter.

Well, to be specific, Noxzeema in the morning (slather on face, maybe make some war paint streaks  then into the shower to wash it all off) and I use Clean&Clear’s Iforgetwhatit’scalled at night - the blue liquid, it’s for sensitive skin - since it’s quicker and easier than washing off Noxceema. Just splash onto a cotton ball, wipe, go pass out.

That’s been my face routine for years and I probably won’t deviate from it for the next several decades, but I do have fun mixing up what I use for body skin. Eucerin or Aveeno in the winter if I’m itchy and not totally broke (that Aveeno shit’s expensive! and I’m cheap!) or St. Ives or very often just the cheapo generic versions of stuff. Oh, and I like Skim Milk’s line, too.
I try to find highly moisturizing but not highly scented stuff, which cuts down the vast array of options somewhat.

Dear sweet Og, I washed my hair once - once! - with a bar of soap years ago. That was … unpleasant.

Aruqvan, sweetie, anyone with hair longer than a couple of inches won’t be using soap on their hair if they plan to brush it at any point ever again. (Though the reverse is OK - you can usually shampoo your skin w/no problem. Just gets expensive.) Most straight females don’t have super-short butch hair, you know? Plus women generally have drier skin on their faces than men, so a gentler and more moisturizing/less stripping cleaner is necessary for the facial skin - it’s muchmuchmuch thinner and often more sensitive than body skin.

I don’t necessarily have a showering schedule, but I do have a face-washing schedule. I might shower when I get up in the morning, then again, maybe not until after dinner. Occasionally, it’s smack dab in the middle of the day. What’s more, I don’t even shower in my bathroom, so my Noxzema is not in there. My bathroom has a nice deep Jacuzzi tub, but no shower. My 9YO’s bathroom has a crappy tub, but a good shower. So most days I don’t actually shower at all. At bedtime, I’ll pour myself a little glass of wine, grab a book or magazine, and head off to the bath! I only shower when my hair needs to be washed (I’m old enough now that my hair is dry; I only wash it maybe twice a week).

My face, OTOH, (well, that parses weirdly, doesn’t it? ), I have a very specific routine for. Just before bed, after the bath (if I take one that night, i.e. haven’t already taken a shower earlier), I brush my teeth, wash my face and apply moisturizer. I brush my teeth first so that if I end up dribbling toothpaste on my chin, it’ll wash off with everything else.

I use both, the face just gets a double whammy. I have bar soap in this abrasive scrubby thing, I wash everything but my hair with that. After a good soapy sanding, I deal with my hair then I use Noxzema. I don’t feel clean until I’ve slathered some Noxzema on my face and chest, that menthol scent always leaves me feeling refreshed.

I don’t get the brushing teeth in the shower either. I don’t brush in the middle of the day because I’m at work, yadda yadda. When I’m home though, I brush every time I use the bathroom - why wouldn’t you? It feels good to have nice fresh breath.

I use sensitive skin Dove or some other similar brand (or store brand) of “beauty bar” on both my body and my face in the shower. I take my make-up off at night by washing my face at the sink with a bar of the same thing. (In fact, when the shower soap bar gets small, I move it to the sink and put out a new big bar in the shower.)

I don’t like body washes; they don’t seem like they rinse off enough. Since I moved the the South I haven’t had to moisturize my body much – thanks, humidity! – but I moisturize my face with sensitive skin Oil of Olay every time I wash it.

I use liquid hand soap on my face and bar soap on my body. In the winter I switch to a moisturizing body wash, because the dry air does a number on my skin.

Store brand Cetaphil for my face (with scrubs and things for occasional zits as extra items), some kind of body wash for my body, and shampoo and conditioner for my hair.

You can aggravate acne problems by using too-harsh products on your face - strip all the oil away and your skin may go into overdrive trying to remoisturize it. Use gentler cleansers and something to clear up clogged pores (like alpha or beta hydroxy acid products).

Yup … fancy Mary Kay facial cleanser for me, bar of Ivory for the body.

That, or my shaving cream.

I have oily (turning to combination as I age) facial skin and dry body skin, so using the same soap on both would not work out well. I haven’t found a facial cleanser that really works for me, but it’s less oily now due to certain medications. I like the scent and texture of Noxzema and it doesn’t seem to go overboard drying my face out like a lot of oily skin cleansers do, so I’m back to it for now. I use a moisturizing soap on my body (Dove, usually) and lotion afterward.

I just use the Dove or whatever bar it is for my face/body, and 2-in-1 for my hair. I am low maintenance, thankfully. I used to use separate wash when my acne was heavy.

I don’t really wash my face, ever. I know, I know, but it works for me. My skin is (mostly) clear, save for the few breakouts we all get from time to time. Most I do is rinse it off with water in my morning shower. Shampoo for hair, bar soap for body, then lotion in the winter months for my dry skin.

I’m a gal-type, and yes I wear makeup, but not a ton. This is what works for my mostly problem-free skin.

I use cheap shampoo for every bit of my hair and skin. Done that for years.

I am female, and I have had hair ranging from knee length to half an inch close crop, and I have a bottle of dr bronner with tea tree oil in the shower. My hair is currently bra strap length, and is not dried out or crunchy, and it combs out nicely. I do not process my hair, dye or heat, or chemicals. I can grab a handfull and do the squeezy thing, and it does not make little dry crunchy sounds. I regularly get complimented on it when I get my ends trimmed [letting layers grow out, ultimately I want it to all be a nice length, probably waist long] It gets washed every second or third day, and brushed well between.

I love the smell of noxzema …seriously. That and vicks vaporub! Takes me back to being a kid, noxzema for sunburns and vicks for chest congestion

OK, well, then … ignorance fought?

I have some Dr. Bronner, too - it makes good reading material  - but I mostly use it when I need to reallyreallyreallyreally clean my hands. Like right before I’m going to stick my hands in the fish tank, I wash them with Dr. B. It seems to strip the oils right off the skin. I tried it once on my hair when I first bought it, but it was way too harsh and stripping for that. Diffrnt strokes for diffrnt folks, I guess. (Or, different hair textures.)

Same here, except I don’t wear makeup at all.

In fact, I don’t really use soap except for armpits & undercarriage areas, unless I’m really sweaty/dirty (like, after a workout). It’s always seemed unnecessary, and my dermatologist agrees with me - plain ol’ water is fine for most areas of the body, for most days.

Especially my face. Every time I’ve used something other than water on my face, I end up either with really dry skin or breaking out. One of the very worst cases of acne I’ve ever had was after a facial that I received as a gift. They put all kinds of crap on my face, and I had horrible acne for 2 weeks afterward.

In general, I have great skin, no issues except for the occasional pimple that comes and goes pretty quickly.

I have a shower each morning, and I use a cleanser like Neutrogena, Noxzema or Biore that has salicylic acid for blackheads.

On my body I use shower gel in a scent that I like, and I like moisturizer in it.

I don’t use makeup at all either, and only occasionally use an astringent if my face feels especially icky.

How do you keep clean if you don’t use soap, though? I remember learning in science class that soap binds to the oils on our body–otherwise with water it just slides around. I feel so oily if I skip a shower. Granted, I shower quite a lot, but I’m fastidious. Same with the hair washing. People always say that it’s “better” to wash it less often but whenever I’ve tried doing it only three or four times a week, it’s pretty gross–you can pretty much see the oil on my hair.
