I didn’t even know there was a name for it. You know, those tiny silver balls on Christmas cookies. And then I read this news story.
Oh good grief. Now the food police have come out against one more beloved tradition. I haven’t used dragees in years, but I have fond memories of their unique taste. I loved them as a child. I think I’ll have to buy some in protest, should I manage to find some.
Honestly! If this isn’t a classic example of over-litigiousness (that is not a word, but I have no idea what word I mean. Can some lawyerly type fix that for me? Thanks.) You’d have to eat a LOT of those to get into poison-type trouble. Yes, silver can be toxic, but so can vitamin A and no one’s pulling carrots off the market!
The dragees are critical for my cardamom snowflake cookies. But, they’ve been harder and harder to find in recent years, so last time I found them in the grocery store I bought them all.
I did find a website some time back that sells all kinds of neato cookie and cake decor, including PEARL dragees that are just lovely. It’s Sweet Celebrations, http://www.sweetc.com .
Gosh, I’ve been hearing that they’re bad to eat for years-doesn’t Snopes have something on that?
Hmm, I’ve got a stash of dragees. Maybe I can pass them on the my kids. It’ll probably be their only inheritance!!
A Pox on all the busybody lawyers who are looking for a fat fee for little or no work.
The very idea NO DRAGEES! Lawsuits, IDJITS all!
Common sense is SO UNCOMMON!
