Doctor Who Christmas Special 2013 - Matt Smith's final episode (spoilers as it airs)

Seems to me that Capaldi is keeping his accent.

I loved it.

That moment with Amy Pond at the end made me tear up. I’m glad she showed up to say good night to the Doctor.

I have zero read on the new Doctor. He could be fine or not. I have no idea.

Underwhelming.

I liked it well enough. It seemed a little rushed at times, like they were trying to pack too much into its running time.

Still, just about ANYTHING would have fallen short after “Day of the Doctor,” and this acquitted itself nicely. Loved Capaldi’s intro!

I am really looking forward to Capaldi. He should be a big improvement over Matt Smith. It was an uneven episode with some overly silly stuff.

I’ll second this. It wasn’t as good an episode as Day of the Doctor, but it was good. A little heavy on the pathos, but it was really interesting to see the Doctor stop running after 1100+ years, settle down, and come to terms with his mortality. There were lots of little moments that were really good, like his getting Barnable confused with his own (grandson?), and the death of Handles, that really made the episode.

As an aside, Eleven/Twelve/Thirteen has apparently gotten over the “no killing” thing in his old age, since the body count of Daleks/Cybermen/Sontarans/Angels/etc. that he racks up over the course of the episode must be in the millions.

Turning young again was lame, and his speech went on way too long… but apart from that i liked it. Was great seeing Amy again. Karen got hotter.

Ugh ick gag

Agreed on the rushed aspect. Way too much special moffat “aren’t i just the deepest” lines and the extremely gratuitous ending scene with Amy (wtf let it and the character go, jesus christ) was the shit capper. I hope Moffat gets sick of the show and passes it off to someone soon.

That was a mess. Only part I liked was seeing Capaldi. What a let down after the brilliance of the 50th anniversary show.

You of all people SHOULD like Capaldi!

 Those were some epic brows in the 50th.
Oh, just remembered something that bugged me, why was Clara not zapped into the past when the Weeping Angel grabbed her?

Because Moffat is shit and ruins everything. Apparently time zapping is an optional add-on.

They weren’t there to feed. They were there for the rift.

Because the Angels have whatever powers the writer feels like at the time. I realized that the first time we saw a cave full of them moving despite the fact that they were all looking at each other.

Jumping topics, what do we think about Tasha Lem? River Song avatar: yes/no? She apparently can fly the tardis, she’s got a big ole flirty history with the doctor and Lem backwards is Mel which is a name that River’s used in the past.

Tasha hadn’t seen Matt Smiths incarnation before.

There are a ludicrous number of people on this board who just want to shit all over everything.

Honestly, if nothing can make you happy, 1> Don’t watch it, and 2> Don’t comment on it.

Regarding Tasha = River, Tasha also talked about the “breakaway sect” that went back in time and bioengineered a psychopatic assassin (ie, River). I wouldn’t think she’d bring that bit up like that if she were an incarnation of River herself.

I will say, having the Silence as confessor priests is creepy beyond words, and I’m not actually sure how it would work - wouldn’t people just keep heading into the confession box repeatedly because they never remembered getting in there?

At the same time, the doctor tells her after she’d been dalek’d that she’d been fighting the psychopath inside all her life already. But you’re probably right. Sigh.

Agreed. The perfect confessor priest is one who immediately forgets whatever you told it, not one that makes you forget you ever saw it.

I can’t decide if that was the fastest regeneration ever, or the slowest. Impressive, though.
