Doctor Who: S7 E12 "The Crimson Horror"

Next week’s exciting episode, Nightmare in Silver, was penned by Neil Gaiman, who vows to make Cyberman scary again. Warwick Davis is also amongst the cast. It’s the penultimate episode of the season, and River Song will return in the final episode.

Does anyone have a guess as to what the Doctor’s name actually is? I’m probably fine with whatever they come up with as long as it isn’t Davros.

I’m kind of hoping that it translates as “John Smith”.

And this episode was a lot of fun all around.

Yes!

I’m going to guess it’s Jim.

I feel the need to point out that in the USA, a satnav is usually referred to as a GPS. Also the TomTom brand is nowhere near as known as the Garmin (eTrex) devices. So that joke would sail over most heads over here.

I thought for sure that he would give his name as Gregory Philip Smith or something like that. When he said “Thomas Thomas,” I figured there was some reference, but I’m not familiar with Tom Tom. I tried to work something in as a reference to “Thomas Guides,” but that didn’t really seem to fit that well.

Tom-toms were big in the US early on. They were the first (that I know of) to offer free map updates and allowed you to download custom character voices.

Speaking of. I want Strax for my Tom-tom.

Yeah, I remember some of the Tom Tom commercials several years ago–but I don’t think I’ve seen any lately.

Another favorite moment from this episode is when the Doctor and Clara are getting back into the Tardis and Clara says something as she enters and the Doctor says jokingly, “You’re the boss.” Clara suddenly pops her head back out of the Tardis door, “Really?!!”
Not so funny in print, but the mischievous look on her face and the Doctor’s furious backpedaling made me laugh.

Well, I think the whole point of the repeated “Doctor Who?” questions over the last few episodes is not that it’s a request for the Doctor’s name.
Pet theory coming up:
After fifty years, whatever name they come up with will be unsatisfactory.

There will be a question asked on the Fields of Trenzalore at the fall of the Eleventh that must not be answered. When the Eleventh Doctor regenerates at the Fall of Trenzalore, maybe there will be some kind of dilemma that will determine the character of the Twelvth Doctor.

So the question could be “Doctor! Who?” As in “Who are you now?” With the answer being either the Doctor, or the Valeyard.

He’s due to show up sometime in the next regeneration or two, isn’t he?
I believe the last time was when Ten let Sarah Jane’s son and friends come on board in “The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith” episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Oh, and I also expected the Doctor to say, “Every planet has a North!”

I definitely saw the Katharine Hepburn in there. Something about the accent.

And not only do I have a Tom Tom, but caught his navigational dialogue, and STILL didn’t put the two together.

At this point there is no name that could be satisfactory.

Odds are, his name won’t be revealed. Steven Moffat is a notorious liar.

I have a bone to pick with TomTom. The maps they use has my street depicted as
one long .5 mile road instead of 2 .2 miles dead ends separated by a marsh. It’s been that way since the roads were paved. Delivery trucks that use TomToms invariably go to the north half of my street and then they cannot find my house which is on the south half. I have complained to no avail; I tell them to lok at their satellite views; you can plainly see the woods. Garmin maps are accurate.

A life size version of Galvatron would be more like that giant Cyberman in The Next Doctor.

And I’d really find it odd if it was just a random prop. It looked to be in pretty good condition and would thus be pretty valuable. It’d be like using a real Amazing Spider-man vol.1 #1 as a prop. Well maybe not that bad. :smack:

There have been reissues of the figure, but only in Japan, and that was back in 2006. I’d say that would be even odder to use as a random prop on a UK show than the original.

So I wonder if the Cybermen in our world merged with the Cybermen from the parallel universe.

That’s almost how it looks. Some had the stylized “C” on their breast plate, and others had the blue glowy circle on theirs.

The re-introduction of Pete’s World might be part of the story arc to bring back Rose for the 50th anniversary special.

It’s probably for the best from their prospective. The Doctor did a lot to drastically reduce the number of our Cybermen, and the parallel Cybermen were wussies (as shown when fighting the Daleks).

I didn’t realize they were re-introducing it. If Rose comes back, I wonder if Doctor 10 Clone comes back with her.

I hope so. Finally get some continuity with 9 and 10.

Which led to my absolute favourite line from Doctor Who, ever. Sarcastic Dalek FTW: “You are superior in only one respect… You are better at dying!”
