Doctor Who: S7 E12 "The Crimson Horror"

What’s with the ?

Not just compared to, stated to be the inspiration for.

And Ada is more likely a reference to Ada Salt, the daughter of Sir Titus Salt, who founded Saltaire, which Sweetville was based on. It’s not like she had anything to do with building her mother’s machine, which would make Lovelace a tenuous reference, at the very best.

Self depreciation: it was a rather dumb remark.

Oh, I don’t know. You know about “Skippy the Bush Kangaroo”, which I never heard of until now.

The only Skippy I know of is a wallaby featured in some ads from Bruce Chevrolet in Hillsboro Oregon.

Just caught up. This one wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t very engaging. (and I love the victorian horror setting too, though the Red-faced Doctor’s silly mugging kinda killed the horror vibe).

I think I’m done with Jenny/Vastra/Strax. Aside from seeing Jenny kick butt on her own and in a leather catsuit (?!) there wasn’t much here that we hadn’t seen already in their previous appearances. And Vastra has stretched believability to the breaking point. That flimsy veil is supposed to hide her alien features? and even if you accept that it does, she flings it up at a moments’ notice, almost deliberately freaking out the humans around her. Where are the pitchfork and torch mobs?

I didn’t realize that was Diana Rigg until the “inside Dr. Who” segment in the commercials, and I have been watching GoT. That wimple she wears over there vs. the scraggly hair here makes a big difference. (as does having a non-cartoonish character)

Well, Clara’s growing on me at least. She was useful and fun, and not in a Mary-Sueish way.

To be fair, Vastra’s not an alien. She’s a Silurian, and they evolved on Earth. Hide her “reptilian” features is correct, and I agree, this is getting silly.

Yes, of course. Silly of me to forget. They are still the same features, though…
