Doctor Who Series 9 discussion (spoilers as it airs)

Tonight’s episode was a nice creepy Halloween one, except it’s a fortnight late.

Why would they need to resurrect River? It’s time travel. Simply bring in River from a different point of time. We haven’t seen every minute of her life.
In other news - Missy is going to Gotham.

They only need to resurrect her if they are going to have Missy kill her. Missy cannot kill her at a point in River’s timeline time previous to where we first meet her, which includes her physical death. It’s the desire to have River killed by Missy with a pointy stick that is being discussed by some as all they want for Christmas that is at issue here.

Definitely an odd sort of episode, was kinda expecting the doctor or clara to show up at some point in the episode with a BFG 9000.

Anywho, the preview for next weeks ep, damm that sure looked like Diagon alley.

I can see it now, the Doctor and Hermonie getting it on , in a serious exchange of sarcasm.

Declan

Preferably in the trachea. “Spoilers, swee- argh, choke, gurgle, erkkkk…”

Michelle Gomez would be the best Joker in screen history.

Ah. Gotcha. Thanks.

I had a really hard time getting into tonight’s episode. The style totally didn’t work for me.

Not usually a big fan of shaky-cam found footage, but I like the way they made that work. Low-key, nicely creepy, and didn’t go on too long. Good work from Mark Gatiss.

Maybe I need to be hit over the head with a blunt object, but I just didn’t get that at all.

OK, the fact that there were no cameras and we could see the action from Clara’s POV was obvious. Clearly the Morpheus had infected in in the pod. But why was that significant? She just asked the Doctor if it could be fixed, and he just looked cagey and told her basically that he was sure it would be fine.

What was the significance of the gravity shield shutting down? What was the inventor talking about that could never be unseen? Why was the Doctor shouting “It doesn’t make sense!” as they escaped into the Tardis?

I’m sure the last scene of the inventor turning into dust was supposed to be a clever twist, but I think I’ve been totally whooshed here.

“Blink” was an awesome episode of Dr Who. It took a perspective from a third character and turned mundane statuary into really nasty and cool creatures.

I think Moffat was going for something similar here. The video was assembled by the chief eye-booger. Kind of “The Ring” with viral videos. Okay, neat premise, since even CNN likes to show those damn things as bumpers.

The thing is, I don’t think carnivorous eye-boogers really know how to make a viral video.

Here’s a tip, for the eye-boogers. People running around expositing – not interesting. Want to go viral, get a kid or a cat to do something stupid and post it. Here’s a compilation of stupid cat videos. It’s not even original videos, the guy just edited them together. It’s got 65 million views. Cats, that’s how you get people to force all their friends to watch.

About the episode itself, we have what is apparently one talking and intelligent eye-booger while the rest of the super-evolved shamble around like blind zombies. Except somehow they are all getting a Morpheus eye-booger camera feed or something? Are they also telepathic?

Did we get an ending for the episode that I missed or was it just everyone leap into the TARDIS and leave?

Capaldi was right, none of it made any sense. I am hoping that next week or so we get the payoff. It will be a sad ending for Clara if her big send-off is to be eaten by the eye-boogers.

Hmm. Maybe that’s how it makes sense. Clara is still living a dream under the influence of the critters from “Last Christmas.”

Yeah, it was too convoluted and opaque to be scary.

I like what I think was the basic premise: Monster spreads by visual virus. Decides to stage a viral video and embed the virus in it. Creates a situation where it can get a lot of found footage and edits it together.

But the premise was buried under so many unnecessary complications and red herrings that it never paid off. At the end you should have been “I watched it! I’ve got the virus in my eye! Ahhhhh!” Instead you’re just “What?”

I got a headache from the constant POV switching.

Eye booger monsters. They’re running out of ideas.

Last night’s ep was this season’s “Kill the Moon.”

Man-eating eyeboogers? It’s kinda great.

sigh And I was so trying to forget that one.

Didn’t we already have a taste of that, in Under the Lake/Before the Flood, with the writing in the ship?
Can I flash back to last week for a minute, since I was reminded of it by the re-run showing? (And because I want to forget this week’s episode already)

Paraphrasing:
Clara: So you must have thought I was dead for a while.
Doctor: Worst month of my life
Clara: Shouldn’t have been that long
Doctor: I’ll be the judge of time
Random exchange? Or did the Doctor actually pop off during the battle and do something?

Bite your tongue, you uncircumcised barbarian. River could take down Missy with the lift of an eyebrow.

If the writer or writers would take some pains with the scene, a battle between River and Missy could be quite entertaining.

Nuh-uh.

OK, so none of this really made any sense to me. Thought this would be a two-parter, with the Doctor and Co now having to contain the viral video eye boogers somehow, instead it seems next week will be a wholly different storyline. What about Clara’s infection? And how does this whole thing work anyway—do the infected become the booger monsters? Do they merely shed boogers till something forms from that? Why could the head booger assume human shape? He said something about the boogers being like children, but presumably when he said that, he already was a booger himself?

She could just tell people Scott Baio gave her pink eye.
