Doctor Who - Series Six - Part II

OK, I forgot. But why the stupid Mel story? Why can’t the kids (Amy and Rory) just raise a baby? Did “Mel” know she was Amy’s daughter when they were in third grade? And she goes for decades without saying anything?

Seconded.

Well, don’t forget that she’s been programed to kill the Doctor. She grew up with Amy not because she’s her mom, but because Amy met the Doctor as a kid and would eventually meet the Doctor again.

And also, without that “stupid” story, we never would’ve got to meet young notgay Rory.

It’s kind of hard to build a tyke-bomb when she’s in the custody of the best friend the person you want her to kill.

And, once she was brainwashed, she had to get to the Doctor…what better way than to latch onto the person you know where to find, who will then bring her to him…eventually?

Well, I mostly enjoyed Lost. But some people really expected the show to explain the meaning of life & the universe & everything–then were disappointed when it ended up just being a TV show.

I started watching Doctor Who when it was a kiddie show with monsters made of bubble wrap & the cardboard sets; but there was plenty of wit to go around. I’m pretty sure we’ll be getting more details as this half “season” continues. (Remember the “continuity error” the anoraks raved about when a Doctor in a jacket visited Amy while she was running from the Angels–& the Doctor was running around in shirt sleeves?) Then, there’s always next season.

(Although I’m not happy about these “best of” specials BBCamerica is running. Clip shows have their uses; they explain things for the newbies & people just getting back into the show. And I don’t mind seeing a few Crowning Moments re-run. But how did they pick the “Whovians” making comments? Where did they dig up these “celebrities?” All losers. Except for Mark Sheppard, of course.)

I did feel that this would’ve been better as a two part episode on it’s own (as opposed to being the second half of Demon’s Run). However, the Doctor’s non-answer to Amy’s question about Rory being “good” now definitely implies that her transformation is far from complete.

Yeah, me too - when you see a red Stingray barreling through a wheatfield, you just know it’s River Song.

What most caught me was the Doctor’s comment when he is engaging the Voice Interface: “There must be someone left in the universe I haven’t screwed up.” All that guilt…

Just a minor correction, since you’ve done this twice… The episode is called A Good Man Goes to War. Demon’s Run is the primary location, but it’s not the episode title.

For anybody who watched episodes of the show’s first run (63 - 89) did you catch that part about the doctor saying the TARDIS being in a state of grace was a cleaver lie?

:smack: Not sure why I did that. Although the first time I was actually referring to the place, not the episode.

Hmm…I was sure someone called the episode Demon’s Run earlier…didn’t bother reading your first post - just confirmed who had used the words earlier in the thread, figuring that’d be the post I was thinking of. (That’ll learn me!) Maybe I’m thinking of someone in the other thread. Ah, well.

So… Did anyone ever let Hitler out of the cupboard?

From what I’ve heard about his relationships with women, “closet” might be more appropriate.

Pretty much with you on this. The one guy with the plaid shirt and tie is BBC America’s host of their Friday night comedy lineup. But, with the obvious exception of Mark Sheppard, I’ve never heard of any of these other people. Guess you have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find American celebrities who are Whovians. And from a comment made by one of the actresses, talking about seeing all the Doctors, from “the first through David Tennant” (in “The Eleventh Hour”), I’m guessing that not many of them are familiar with the original series. (I do find the fact that a huge, muscle-bound ex-NFL player is a Doctor Who fanboy funny as hell, though.)

Of course, they were apparently referring to their movement or order and not their species as we thought back then.

I love Doctor Who, and I did like this episode (most of it anyways), but I am becoming rather tired of Moffat’s multi-season long drawn out plots. It’s becoming a bit of an *effort *to watch this show, I feel like unless I watch every previous episode from season 5 & 6 in order again, I won’t understand important plot points in new episodes.

As I mentioned to a friend earlier this evening, he’s definitely not making it easy for newbies/casuals. o.O

I read somewhere that he said that Series 7 will be more stand-alone stories and less arc.

I really hope so.

It’s weird because Moffat’s episodes were always my favorites from seasons 1-4, but because seasons 5 & 6 are so intertwined and convoluted, they are easily my least favorites seasons of the entire new series. A couple episodes have been great stand-alone pieces, but overall I’ve been a bit disappointed.
Still looking forward to next week though. Like I said, I do still love the show, just maybe not as much as before.

And I apologize for naming my dogs after you, though they are short and long and look like eyebrows as they run up and down the block.

“Have you seen a couple eyebrows running loose?”

“Yeah, and they are in your yard right now.”

One at the front door and the other at the side door.
