I enjoy the taste of diet soda, and it quenches my thirst while sugared soda makes me thirstier. I’m going to have the burger and fries anyway because I enjoy the taste; I don’t eat many sugary things but grease and fat I enjoy.
And I keep trying to tell myself that people aren’t judging me the way I think they are.
And how about that sweater? Did your body tell you to wear that sweater?

Well, to add some much-needed levity to this thread, I think I’ll share that I’ve lost 20 pounds this year. I’m currently following a reduced calorie diet and trying to live a more active lifestyle. I’m still fat, but I’m working on it!
(I drink diet soda exclusively. My mom practically nursed me on the stuff when I was little, because I was a fat kid. Now I only have a taste for it.)
By the way I bet I’m more overweight than you are (20 kilograms or 50 pounds over). It just never occurred to me that anyone would actually prefer the taste of Diet Coke. To me it tastes like a cup full of chemicals.
Personally if I were to indulge in junk food I would have the heavy Coke to go with it.
No despite calling my grandmother a big fat slob in a previous post I don’t actually judge people for being overweight, since I am myself.
It was a bad choice of words to say I found the combination of Big Mac & Diet Coke amusing. It would have been more appropriate to say that I find it puzzling or odd, since when I have a junk food binge its a no holds barred binge - thoughts of low fat, low cal don’t apply to me at such times.
Definitely a bad choice of words. I almost ripped into you for it, but I knew someone else would come along.
Like I said in an earlier post-I enjoy diet drinks and see absolutely no need to add 400 calories in a supersized fucking cup to my already awful choice in foods. When I eat well, I drink diet. When I’m naughty I drink diet. It might be hypocritical to some people to order a diet drink with fast food, but tough shit. My food weaknesses are all fast-food based, so when I’m off my diet I’m definitely drinking diet.
At some point in my teens I started to find regular coke too sweet and not refreshing or thirst quenching. I’ve been drinking Diet Coke ever since. When I accidently get the regular kind, it tastes like a powdered doughnut dipped in cola. Literally, it has that cloying aftertaste of powdered sugar.
Each to their own.
As for my weight, I lost 70 lbs over a two year period about 4 years ago. All I did was make sure that I ate protein every time I ate carbohydrates. I already avoided most sugar, but used to eat lots of bread or pasta (alone). By making that one change, having protein with my carbs, I lost the weight. … And yes, I was one of those people having a diet coke with my double quarter pounder with cheese and small fries a couple of times a week while loosing that weight. Before you ask, my blood pressure and cholesterol are all on the low (good) side of normal
Oh, OK, you are bemused, not amused. Thanks for your response. There was a thread some time ago about water/diet soda and I was happy to see that I’m not the only one who hates water and uses diet soda for thirst and taste purposes.
I used to feel the same way that Imasquare did (or, perhaps, didn’t). But, when I started gaining a bit of weight (I’m only barely past the top end of the “healthy” BMI range, but I still feel fat compared to how I used to be), one of the first things I did was cut out soda. I only drink diet soda in caffeine emergencies because I don’t like the taste, but when I do occasionally treat myself to a Double Double with fries, I drink water with it. I have now seen the light.
