documentary on biker clubs and gangs

Piggyback question:

In the motorcycle-club context, what does “1%er” mean?

1% of the MC’s are considered to be criminal gangs. The rest are considered to be just clubs, at least as considered by the American Motorcycle Association. So many MC’s will wear a 1% patch for cred.

The 1%er thing was a little more appropriated than that, as I understand it. When the American Motorcycle Association was struggling against the popular image of bikers as outlaws, they commented something along the lines of, “99% of all motorcyclists are law-abiding citizens.” So the actual outlaws said, “well then, fuck you, we’re the 1%.”

By the way …

Noble cause, I’m sure, but how exactly does that work? If they’re in the court system with child-abuse cases, one would assume the abuse is therefore behind them. From whom exactly are the bikers protecting the kids?

Anybody who might try to hurt them–for example, friends of the abuser, or even the abuser himself if he’s out on bail. They also accompany the kids to court and provide them with a contingent of tough-looking friends to be with them when they have to face the abuser in the courtroom. I believe they assign one BACA member to be a special buddy for each child. They go through stringent background checks and other vetting before they’re allowed to work with the kids.

I used to work with a guy who was in an outlaw club and I went to his house one time to fix his computer and even though I was there by invitation, and helping him, I definitely got hard looks from some of his buddies who didn’t appreciate an “outsider” being there. I fixed the box with minimal talk, and left as quickly as I could.

Guys like these are offended easily. Think about the movie Goodfellas when Henry Hill is laughing along with the boys at a story that Tommy is telling and suddenly Tommy flips the switch… “You find me amusing?” “I’m a joke to you?”

I’ve seen shit like that happen. Things can get real ugly real fast and frankly, if you think you can walk into an outlaw biker bar and strike up a friendly conversation, you’re asking to be stomped. Simply walking into “their” bar could easily be seen as disrespect.

I had a suggestion, but the OP seems to have forgotten this thread and wandered away.

Or perhaps has reconsidered…

Or perhaps went through with it!

hi guys, sorry, i didn’t have notifications turned on.

cornflakes had a great suggestion with regards to going to bike shows and events. I still haven’t found a way to get at a 1%er club but I’ve had some success making first contact with a couple non-1%er clubs.

You need to not try anymore. They are not fans of being ‘documented.’

Harley shops, tattoo shops, bail bondsmen, cops, the club’s bar of choice.

Be careful. They’re punks and love hitting people.

A&E would disagree with you.

Lots of folks disagree with me on lots of stuff.

Are you willing to bet your life on A&E?? :smack:

Waco, can you say Waco?

Why was no newbie there, camera in hand, doing a documentary??

Your post makes no sense. You made the claim bikers don’t like to be documented as per the OP. I gave an example of lots of bikers from different clubs being documented.

It has nothing to do with betting my life or Waco.
