I have a designer putting together an editable PDF for me.
In Preview for Mac, it opens, can be typed in, and then saves just fine.
In Adobe Reader for Mac, you get a message as soon as you open it that you won’t be able to save it, so print it out.
Have not tried it in Reader for Windows.
So, was just wondering if Adobe is always a cheap bitch like that (perhaps because it wants to buy a higher software package?) or it’s actually the file’s fault.
My designer is looking into it, but I thought I’d ask the Dope, cuz the Dope knows all.
Thanks!
Adobe Reader is just that, a reader. It does not allow you to save files. If you want that functionality, you need to get the full Adobe Acrobat product.
Print it to a PDF printer driver, like PDF995.
Yes, Adobe Reader can save a filled-out PDF, but only if the PDF has first been marked with the “local save” capability. Adobe FAQ: Can I save an Adobe PDF form in Adobe Reader after I have filled it out?
Your designer will need to use PDF creation software (Acrobat or something else) that knows how to turn on this capability (and then perhaps actually tell the program to do so).
