Does AirBnB allow cancellations within 24 hours?

I have heard that, according to US law, most travel arrangements made in the US can be cancelled at no cost within 24 hours of booking. I’m pretty sure this applies even to non-refundable airline reservations. I’ve looked at Airbnb’s site, and the 24 hour cancellation policy was not mentioned - only that a 50% refund will be given if cancellation occurs 7 days or more before the trip date.

Does anyone here know if the 24 hour rule is truly a US law and that it applies to Airbnb?

Some smaller chains have more strict cancellation policies already.

One thing I am sure of is that it is not a US law. The Feds don’t regulate hotel cancellation policies - they do regulate airline policies and airlines must allow you to cancel within 24 hours of booking (although apparently one airline gets around this by offering a free 24 hour hold before you finalize the ticket purchase). There may be some states that require a hotel to allow you to cancel without a charge within 24 hours of booking, but there are certainly some states that don’t.

Ah, sorry about that. I’ve managed to cancel a non-refundable airplane trip within minutes of booking. It was probably a caching problem on their website, but still, they didn’t need to do so. And since I doubt the tickets had been fully booked yet it wasn’t a big issue for them. I’ve also tried to change a non-refundable airplane ticket several months before flight time but a few weeks after booking, and they had no interest in talking to me. I couldn’t change that one for love or money.

I don’t know of any 24-hour Reconsider law for travel reservations. I do believe there are some state laws about major purchases such as cars, but nothing about travel purchases in general.
