I’m trying to locate original of the Alfons Walde painting,
Kirchenstiege, um 1924,oil on cardboard.
Does anyone know easy way to locate originals of the paintings.
Is there a good, free, database of famous painting locations?

If it is not in the public collection of a museum, no. Insurance companies tend to not want artwork advertised [of course if it is up for auction, that is different] because of the risk of a theft on order of known artworks. Heck, my mom’s art glass collection isn’t allowed to be published by her insurance company for that very reason. Only stuff that is known is the stuff on loan to a museum, because it is in their catalog, and it dies mention that it is on loan from her. The risk is all the museum’s insurance policy. They have much more expensive security measures than my mom’s house is able to have for the amount of money she is able to spend.
It was up for auction in 2002, and most likely sold. The auction house does have a contact number, but I doubt they would tell you who purchased it though they might pass a message along. NO idea if the new owner would contact you however.
