Does anybody else think [smartcar lookalikes]

That Smart cars look like scrubbing bubbles?

Well now I do.

Death-Trap is the first thing that springs to mind but now that you mention it they really kind of do look like Scrubbing Bubbles in a cute sort of way.

I’ve always thought Smart Cars were ugly.

I’ve never been in one. I wonder if it’d make me claustrophobic.

Smart Car looks like a sunfish. The back half is missing.

They get terrible gas mileage considering their size. Why would anyone buy one?

For me it would be because we could fit 2 of them in our single deeded parking space!
But we won’t buy one because we don’t need a car.

My mom has one. She loves it so much. It makes her squee! It has eyelashes.

They are surprisingly roomy inside. As far as safety goes, she says that she’s old and lived a great life and she’ll drive whatever she wants, dammit.

Smart Car totally looks like Little Tykes Car

here is one that looks like Dory from Finding Nemo

here is one that looks like one of those car shaped shopping carts for children.

Because they are fantastic for what they were designed to do: urban driving and parking in the crowded, narrow streets of European cities. They are surprisingly roomy inside (I fit without any problem in them, and I am definitely not a small guy), and they have reasonably good safety features.

That said, I don’t see why the manufacturer decided they were appropriate for the average conditions in the US, though.

I always thought they doubled as mini coffins. If you’re killed in a wreck, they don’t bother with the jaws of life. They just ship you to the funeral home, Smart car and all.

We’ve got an oversized 2-car garage, and we figure we could fit 6 of them in it. Not that we’d want 6 Smart cars, but that would be interesting - more interesting than 2 cars, a motorcycle, a workbench and a lumber rack.

But, yeah, I can see scrubbing bubbles there…

A friend of mine owns a Ferrari 512TR, a Ferrari 430 (while he’s waiting for delivery of the 458) and a Smart car - all red, natch. I think the dichtomy amuses him.

Geo Metro would have been better.

Ask your friend if I can borrow one of his Ferraris, I have a date Saturday night. I’m a very good driver.

I’ve made the title a bit more descriptive.

You can get kits to trick them out to look like Corvettes, SUVs and all kinds of cool stuff. My husband and I “decided” when they came out that if we ever got one, the cost of one of these kits would have to be budgeted in.

They actually have one of the best safety ratings in crash tests.

But I would feel really vertiginous in one, especially on a highway.

No kidding!

The local car dealerships bring cars out onto the ice during intermissions at the hockey games here. One time the featured car was a Smart car. The guy behind me yelled “Where’s the rest of it?”
