Yeah, I can understand that, I often find myself thinking, reading your posts, hey Harmoniuos Discord is kinda cool, but not nearly as cool as those charter members. Yeah, guys, seriously, who cares what that “old timer” writes anyways. Pfft. N00b. Forget about it.
He made a chart.
INFIDEL! That’s almost as bad as holding out on the board fee just so you can eat!
Anyway, I never respond to posts from mere Members, and most especially not Guests …
GAAHH! UNDO! UNDO!
i recently re-subscribed just to ensure I wouldn’t have to worry about losing posting privileges, even if only for a month or two. I think that I, and all those who have done/will do likewise, should at least be able to see themselves honored as “Charter Members” until May 2009. Following that, the designation could be retained as long as the CM continues to pay for posting privileges. In that case, I’d accept the loss of the CM honorific and the presence of ads in order to be able to post for free once again.
I didn’t like it when it was introduced. I thought it was a bit of a wank, to be honest. I remember in a thread at the time, I described it as a bit too “port and cigars”.
However, in light of the return to free posting, I’ve changed my position on this. I think it’s a nice recognition for those of us who continued to financially support the board, yea though we walked through the valley of the shadow of time-outs, crashes, and downtime. I think that counts for something.
I ponied up when they went pay-to-post in exchange for which they promised such things as search privileges and the title “Charter Member”. Maybe in your mind I didn’t do much for them, and they didn’t do much for me. But after many years here, I was operating on the assumption that those of us who were there at the time were willing to come together, put our money where our mouth was, and even sponser others who couldn’t afford it. It was a one-time event when the board and the people who cared about it at that time and place came together to help make it solvent. That’s not to say that no one else has ever cared about the board before or since. It’s just to say that we are justified, in my mind, in thinking that we did something special. Together. And I don’t know why anyone would begrudge that.
This. Make this a sticky.
That’s the only reason, in my opinion. I thought, at first, it was supposed to be for those who were members before the board went pay. Other than that, what’s the point?
It’s also a little bit crass, if you think about it, to say, “Hey-I paid less than you did-HA HA!”
Lib, no offense, but I find that rather pompous and pathetic at the same time.
Guin,is my position also pompous and pathetic?
Or TheLoadedDog?
Maybe the whole damn kerfluffle has no more significance than getting a little sticker after we vote or give blood. But the fact is, we did vote and give blood. And we stuck by this board.
Then count me as pompous and pathetic as well. Not that I care what you think.
Before y’all all pile on Guin, even though I know how much fun that can be, let me just say that she hasn’t said anything in this thread that I don’t agree with(yet).
Or more succinctly
Guin X2
Well, I’ve posted (you can see it up the page a bit) my opinion, and truthfully, the discount price did not even enter my head when I wrote what I did. I don’t think it’s an issue for most people. I’d pay $50 per annum if I wanted to be a part of this community, but I would refuse to pay ten cents if I didn’t think I was i here for the long haul. The seven bucks difference is irrelevant here. I value the charter membership simply because I stuck by the board and its people when, frankly, it wasn’t particularly offering much in the way of a decent service.
Stupid 99’ers.
I am also frugal and persistent, so if that’s what it means, I’m all for it. Yeah, I care a little bit about my beautiful title. When and if it goes away, no particular big deal, but I do kinda like it.
On another note, most message boards have titles for users - why should this one be different and take our specific titles away? The fact that most message boards have them indicates to me that they serve some kind of a need in the human psyche.
I miss my title, to be honest. The board went to subscriptions on April 26, 2004; my subscription signup date was in early June 2004.
While I totally accept that my losing my title was my fault, I’m annoyed to read posts like Lib’s. Did he do something special that helped the board in its time of crisis? Yes. Did I? Yes. Let’s not act as though non-Charter Members did not also contribute financially and help keep this board afloat during that dark time. We may not have the title, but many of us coughed up the cash and endured the same timeouts and lost threads and downtime and uncertainty you did.
I ponied up the cash when the board first went pay, but then left a year later to take a break from all the pompous and pathetic nonsense.
I’d be willing to pay to create my own title, but losing the “Charter Member” title didn’t mean squat.
I don’t give a shit, but I do give a fart.
The powers that be said, you do this (give money from beginning, on time with renewals) you get that (cheaper rates / label). I continue to do this (give money, renewed today), I should continue to get that (cheaper rates / label).
If they want to give others the opportunity to post without paying, along with the big honkin’ ads that come with it, sure why not. As long as I continue to get that for this.
And yes, I probably have the lowest post count for a charter member that has been subscribed since 2000.
Yes. A 50% discount is a very good offer.
Oh, cool – I already knew I was pathetic, but I never realized I was pompous, too!
And yeah, as long as I’m here again, what Liberal said
I put it on my resume.
(Seriously, I like it, but it’s worth about sixty-six cents a month to me.)
Hmmm I bet they could make even more money if they sold Join Dates. :dubious: What would you pay to get a Join Date: Jan. 1998, that’s the real question.
