Does Anyone Else eat the ENTIRE fruit

My brother used to eat the entire fruit. For example if he ate an apple he ate the seeds, stem and core. Same for pears, heck he’d chew on the peach kernals. He ate potatos skins and all (before it was fastionable). Pomagranites seeds, Pumpkin seeds, shells and all. The only thing I recall him not eating was the banana peal.

I knew him for 16 years and he never seemed to have any problems.

A co worker said it wasn’t good to do that as it is dangerous.

I know some fruits have small bits of cyanide etc but does it have enuff to kill you? Does it build up over time?

well, apple seeds have cyanide, and the dirt on potatoes can contain bacteria… but you need a cup of apple seed before you get killed (generally). and no, i don’t eat fruits seed and all
question: did your brother eat the apple tree along with the apple?
d&r

Sometimes I eat orange peels, and get down into watermelon rind. Thanks for the info. on apple seeds. I won’t crunch them any more!

you’re welcome

[sub]orange peels? ugh…[/sub]
d&r (again)

I have been known to occasionally eat the whole fruit. Kiwi fruit skins are extremely nice - hairy, but nice.

I used to eat the entire fruit. Vegetables too.

As I got older, I required more and more cutting, peeling, slicing etc. before I would eat it.

Today it is nearly veggi-seppuku before I can bring myself to eat any raw fruit or vegitable, and I eat a lot of them.

It usually takes me longer to prepare than to eat most raw things.

mmmmmmmm, but only guavas and stawberry guavas.

I eat the entire apple. Seeds and all. But first I prepare it by reaming out the stem hole and the opposite hole. I like Galas, Deliciouses, Fujis. I don’t eat Mackintosh because the seed covers are too tough to eat and have to be thrown away.

I never peel potatoes or carrots but wash & scrub them very well.

I get this mental image of bananas ringing bells.

I do eat the entire apple, pear (MMMMMMMMMM…apple pears), kiwi, all seeds. I love orange peel in chocolate pudding.

I eat entire apples. In dishes like chinese orange beef, I’ll eat the orange peels in the dish.
Just don’t see a reason not to.

There’s only a small trace of cyanide in the apple seeds. You’d have to be munching a hell of a lot in a very short time to be affected. IIRC, the cyanide doesn’t build up.

I always ate potato skins – they were the best part of a baked potato (note: if you put your potato in foil, it’s not baked). As kids, we used to fight over who got them.

I also eat the entire apple. The apple has to be nice and firm and crunchy. I like mango peel also, but I don’t eat the pit.

Mrs. Thill eats whole apples and has been doing it all her life. Do you think I should tell her about the cyanide?

Ah, the things you fight over when you were kids. My sister and I used to fight over who got to eat the fish’s eye and we’d only be placated by the fact that there was one for each of us. shudder

I eat concord grapes, seeds and all. For a while, I ate pineapple slices, skins and all. But I usually throw away skins.

[yul brynner]

Have you ever tried a pine tree?
Many parts are edible!

[/yul brynner]

(How old do you have to be to remember that one?)

I’ll eat all of apples, oranges, carrots w/tops chopped fine in soup or salad, etc.

Things that are bad to eat:

Rubarb leaves, and uncooked stalks.
Peach and apricot pits - contain cyanide
Mushrooms - taste like bits of sponge

I’m wondering about the rhubarb, barstow. As kids, we used to eat it raw all the time (sometimes dipped in sugar); I know the leaves aren’t good for you, but what’s the deal with the stalks?

Sorry, it was Ewell Gibbons, not Yul Brynner

Damn!
