My brother used to eat the entire fruit. For example if he ate an apple he ate the seeds, stem and core. Same for pears, heck he’d chew on the peach kernals. He ate potatos skins and all (before it was fastionable). Pomagranites seeds, Pumpkin seeds, shells and all. The only thing I recall him not eating was the banana peal.
I knew him for 16 years and he never seemed to have any problems.
A co worker said it wasn’t good to do that as it is dangerous.
I know some fruits have small bits of cyanide etc but does it have enuff to kill you? Does it build up over time?
well, apple seeds have cyanide, and the dirt on potatoes can contain bacteria… but you need a cup of apple seed before you get killed (generally). and no, i don’t eat fruits seed and all
question: did your brother eat the apple tree along with the apple? d&r
I eat the entire apple. Seeds and all. But first I prepare it by reaming out the stem hole and the opposite hole. I like Galas, Deliciouses, Fujis. I don’t eat Mackintosh because the seed covers are too tough to eat and have to be thrown away.
I never peel potatoes or carrots but wash & scrub them very well.
There’s only a small trace of cyanide in the apple seeds. You’d have to be munching a hell of a lot in a very short time to be affected. IIRC, the cyanide doesn’t build up.
I always ate potato skins – they were the best part of a baked potato (note: if you put your potato in foil, it’s not baked). As kids, we used to fight over who got them.
Ah, the things you fight over when you were kids. My sister and I used to fight over who got to eat the fish’s eye and we’d only be placated by the fact that there was one for each of us. shudder
I’m wondering about the rhubarb, barstow. As kids, we used to eat it raw all the time (sometimes dipped in sugar); I know the leaves aren’t good for you, but what’s the deal with the stalks?
