Does anyone else get desires to do things you're not very good at?

Yeah, you could pull a muscle trying some of that stuff before you’re ready.

I desire to be a functioning adult in our society. I have never been successful in achieving that goal. But I can tie a cherry stem into an overhand knot with my tongue!

Ok, everyone who trys once and decides “No talent” Answer the New York tourist question…“How do you get to Carneige Hall?”

If Shut Up means to stop talking, does Grow Up mean to stop growing?
Never Give In.
Never Give Up.
The Lost Boys are alive and well, and living in the hearts of us all.

Like LifeOnWry, I would love to be able to sing, although not professionally. Being able to sing at all would be enough. I too belt out tunes in the car, but am not cruel enough to subject anyone else to the caterwauling, so I only do it when I am alone.

I do believe, though, that everyone has something creative they have some natural ability at. The hard part is finding out what it is.

I’ve never said this to anyone on this website before, but…

How YOU doin’?

Corey Haim and Corey Feldman?

Anaamika, I think I get your drift. You like the finished product (at least like the pros make 'em), but you don’t have the patience to perfect your technique.

I would still argue that “talent” doesn’t much enter into it. If you enjoy doing a craft, you just keep doing it. You don’t have to be good at it, at the start, there just has to be something about the mechanical technique or the way the piece of work develops that pleases you. You get more and more practice, and learn new techniques here and there, and eventually, everybody’s oohing and ahhing over how “talented” you are at it.

On the other hand, unlike just about everything else in life, with crafts, if you don’t like it, meh, you give it up, and try something new. Seems like you just haven’t found the craft that inspires you, yet. Just remember that the finished result isn’t as important as the journey. If you’re impatient because you don’t like the process, then fine, give it up. Life’s too short! But if you’re getting impatient because the finished result isn’t what you hoped for, then see if you can find an easier project so you can master the basics.

Thank goodness for AC Moore, eh?

I agree with this. I just haven’t found the one thing that I really like. But until then, I’ll keep hitting A.C. Moore and keep trying.

I want to draw, but fail miserably at it, so by choice I bake and fold and in this way satisfy my urges.

I always wanted to do stunts like Jackie Chan, but considering I trip and fall and break things alot, I don’t think that’s gonna happen.

For the first five years after college, I was working in a job (actually, at a succession of different employers) that I loved, and wasn’t particularly good at.

Then I changed careers. I’m very good at what I do, and I like it very much. But if someone whispered “come back and give it another try” I’d be out of here like a shot.

I have this intense desire to do gymnastic flip-floppy stuff.

I’m quite a large man.

I’m bored. My tongue is antsy—and there isn’t a cherry stem in sight!

Well, I have several thousand posts here…

I sucked royally at algebra and geometry in school. Every now and then this bugs me to the point where I go to the library, get a basic algebra text, and sit down and try to FIGURE THE DAMN SHIT OUT. Every time it defeats me.

In fact, I think it’s time to try again. Maybe the Algebra for Dummies text this time?

I’m thinking of appropriating this for a pick-up line.

Every couple of years I drag my cheap old acoustic guitar out from under my bed and attempt to make something resembling music. I play for a few weeks and get to a certain level of proficiency then realize that since nobody is every going to hear me play it there really isn’t any point and back under the bed it goes.

A few weeks ago I again dragged ‘Dusty’ out from under the bed and started playing. The difference this time is that at some point I’m actually going to let somebody hear me play it. I start lessons this Saturday

Drawing, guitar playing, song writing, hitting a baseball…

I’ve always found it fairly easy to pick up a beginner’s ability with just about anything I’ve put my mind to… except music.

I can’t sing a note. I can’t keep time whatsoever. I’ve got no rhythm, and two left feet. It’s sad, really.

Oh, and I’ve always wanted to be able to play basketball, but I’m not tall enough and I have no depth perception.

I love drumming. And I’m good at, so log as I don’t have to follow along to something that someone wrote, or actually “keep a rythm.”

I also occationally have the urge to try and fly from the top of buildings. I’m not too good at it. I can never manage to miss the ground.
