Is it just because I’m living out here in the mountains of Colorado, or are there others that really dislike his voice? Everytime I bring Ira Glass’s name up among public radio listeners around here, there always seems to be a number of people who hate his voice.
Is it just us or what? I seem to remember that he is from Chicago. Does that voice seem to be less whiney to the people of the Windy City?
I’m sure many people dislike his voice. I am not one of them – Ira Glass is one of my personal heroes – but I can understand the feeling. It’s not conventionally radio-friendly.
It is not just you. Although we seem to be in a minority.
If it makes you feel any better, I know a speech therapist who would give anything for an hour-long session with him. She’s always talking about something very specifically wrong with his way of speaking… but it’s some term I can’t remember. Sorry.
Okay, maybe I have to take a deep breath and clear my mind of kneejerk reactions so I can listen to what she’s saying rather than how she says it. A good voice for print.
Ira’s voice bugs me. but those Christopher Walken style inflections don’t help.
Vowell’s voice voice needs to go back to whatever alternate dimension it came from. The bad thing is voice or no voice, I just don’t find her funny. Go figure.
So despite repeated attempts and encouragement from people who’s opinions I respect, I just can’t take This American Life.
Though I have no idea who this person is, I find it hard to believe his voice is more annoying than Billy “Oxyclean” Mays’. Like daggers in my ears, it is.
