Does anyone else hate Ira Glass's voice?

Is it just because I’m living out here in the mountains of Colorado, or are there others that really dislike his voice? Everytime I bring Ira Glass’s name up among public radio listeners around here, there always seems to be a number of people who hate his voice.

Is it just us or what? I seem to remember that he is from Chicago. Does that voice seem to be less whiney to the people of the Windy City?

TV

No, every bit as whiney. We’re just deeper here close to the Earth’s core so we tolerate it better.

Actually, considering how potentially annoying it is–and he doesn’t SOUND like he’s from Chicago–Ira’s voice has grown on me.

I’m sure many people dislike his voice. I am not one of them – Ira Glass is one of my personal heroes – but I can understand the feeling. It’s not conventionally radio-friendly.

Annoying at first.

Then I listened to what he was saying.

Damn good radio show.

Voice doesn’t bother me now.

It is not just you. Although we seem to be in a minority.

If it makes you feel any better, I know a speech therapist who would give anything for an hour-long session with him. She’s always talking about something very specifically wrong with his way of speaking… but it’s some term I can’t remember. Sorry.

I love his voice.

His show is excellent.

Now I just want to clone him and have an Ira of my very own.

I love his voice! It’s Sarah Vowell’s voice that annoys the hell out of me.

Go go This American Life!

Glory, you’re not kidding! I like what Sarah says, but jeezopete, what a voice…

I don’t mind Ira’s voice, though it is a bit idiosyncratic. I love the show.

I hate hate hate his voice.

Okay, maybe I have to take a deep breath and clear my mind of kneejerk reactions so I can listen to what she’s saying rather than how she says it. A good voice for print.

Dear Ira, don’t listen to those heathens. Your show could not be any more perfect.

Love,

Maryna

Too busy loving the show to worry about the voice.

My wife sure does, which is why I can never listen to TAL. :frowning:

Ira’s voice bugs me. but those Christopher Walken style inflections don’t help.

Vowell’s voice voice needs to go back to whatever alternate dimension it came from. The bad thing is voice or no voice, I just don’t find her funny. Go figure.

So despite repeated attempts and encouragement from people who’s opinions I respect, I just can’t take This American Life.

Though I have no idea who this person is, I find it hard to believe his voice is more annoying than Billy “Oxyclean” Mays’. Like daggers in my ears, it is.

I love Ira Glass’s voice.

I love Sarah Vowell’s voice.

Love everything about This American Life. Love it, love it, love it.

Now, Garison Keilor’s voice on the other hand… ::shudder:: Don’t even get me started on Prairie Home Companion…

Naw, it’s Diane Rhem’s voice I can’t stand. It seems like it’s constantly warbling up and down …

Squirrel Cop
Ira rules!

Ugh. Don’t mind the voice but his whole program concept sucks.

Why not just call it ‘Reasons to kill yourself and get it over with life’?

You do know she has a voice disorder don’t you? Spasmodic dysphonia.
