There are waiting lists of people wanting to legally immigrate to the U.S… So it looks like you guessed right the first time.
You don’t know who I wanted for president. So your statement is not correct.
So your average mexican can get in line, and will be ushered in by immigration after they have waited, how long?
I don’t know, I can’t find it, but last I saw, the waiting list was over 15 years, but it seems that I remember that immigration was essentially shut down from the countries to our south. If you have a college degree, you have a chance of coming here. If you don’t, then waiting in line isn’t going to get you to a better life for yourself and your family.
I really dislike “illegal aliens”. It makes them sound like inhuman criminals.
“Immigrants without visa”?
“Legally Mexican”?
“Wannabee Americans”?
New York Times disagrees.
That’s the reason why it’s used. There is also the slightly more dehumanizing “Illegals”.
I thought ‘undocumented workers’ was the term being used.
I don’t know, I always thought it was an accurate term. They are here illegally and they are aliens. I don’t know if it makes them sound inhuman but the are criminals.
Well, in the first place, they’re not all workers. And as for their being undocumented, that begs the obvious question of why are they undocumented.
Life is much simpler and more honest when you don’t jump through hoops and play word games to try to avoid inconvenient truths.
I think the strongest argument people make against persecuting illegal immigrants is this: Should you punish someone for the crimes of their parents?
Which is exactly what happens when you deport everyone who’s already here. There’s a reason DACA had to become a thing; why exactly are we rounding people up and shipping them to a country they’ve never set foot in for a crime their parents committed?
But even if you exclude children of people who immigrated illegally from the mass arrests and deportations, you’re still tearing families apart by shipping their parents away. Sure, they broke the law; but breaking the law, in and of itself, is not immoral. Persecuting people for crimes they didn’t commit and tearing families apart, on the other hand, certainly is immoral.
I don’t disagree that Democrats are on shaky moral ground; they sold their soul long ago for corporate cash.
However, I couldn’t really let this statement pass without asking…does electing two actors as President and building a cult of personality around them (Reagan, and now Trump) not count as the Republicans sucking up to Hollywood?
I’m partial to “undocumented immigrants” myself, although I’ll often use “illegal immigrants” when discussing it with those who use the term “illegal aliens” or just “illegals.”
Undocumented immigrants is a perfectly factual and clear term without having to accuse by default (At least in the eyes of the majority of people who think illegal = immoral.)
Pretty sure Trump has a star on hwood blvd even. And Hillary, not so much.
To me, “undocumented” only highlights the fact they’re here illegally; i.e., why else would they be undocumented?
Well, the children of people who immigrated here illegally, didn’t do anything illegal; other than being brought here by their parents. And now that I think about it, there must be some who followed the rules and immigrated legally, but don’t have have currently valid papers due to bureaucratic screw-ups. As someone who’s worked for HHS I almost became convinced that was the norm rather than the exception.
But isn’t that always the question, when we catch a kid’s parents dead to rights?
Forget immigration status; even if discussing citizens, we grant that you haven’t broken a law while you’ve been living in that big fine house up on the hill where your folks have been paying your way; but if they’ve been committing crimes, then they maybe get locked up and their ill-gotten assets get frozen and so on – which is bad news for their kid, but that doesn’t stop us, does it?
Stop us from what?
In your scenario, the kid would be taken in by CPS, put in foster homes, stuff like that. He’d be taken care of by the system. Which is nothing like what would happen if the kid is thrown back in a country that he left before he could walk or talk.
One of my problems with immigration from Mexico is that the Mexican government, especially among former Mexican President Vincent Fox, basically told his people “hey, if you want jobs, good schools, sanitation, etc… move to the US… o h and send LOTS of money home”.
Then we have our current situation where money sent home from Mexicans working in the US back to their relatives in Mexico currently is Mexicos #2 source of foreign currency (behind oil). Mexico gets billions of dollars yet doesn’t have to build a single road, school, sewage treatment plant, or do anything else for its citizens.
In short, Mexico, instead of working to clean up its own mess and improve the lives of its citizens, has dumped its problems on the USA. And I feel Guatemala has done much of the same.
And this is an interpretation of which statement(s) of Fox’s?
The way I see it, Democrats have no problem taking money from immoral people - as long as those people don’t run for office themselves.
And I think we are close to agreement that I too feel the democrats don’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to moral claims seeing how they take money from one of the countries most immoral sources - Hollywood. No - most Hollywood types don’t run for office (some might in 2020) but that doesn’t mean they cant still control politicians thru financial ties. Democrats love to have their picture taken and get endorsements from Hollywood celebrities. They don’t give a damn of that persons morals.
