This is an interesting reaction to a respiratory virus. We get it be breathing in particles in the air. Hence the need for masks and social distancing, especially with respect to coughing and sneezing, which can travel over twenty feet. Have there even been any documented cases of people getting covid from touching things, or is this just an over abundance of caution?
I’m not overly concerned with fomite transmission, and since I’m not a homesteader I do need to bring in supplies somehow. I’m comfortable with delivery.
I suppose it’s all about levels of comfort, isn’t it? I’m a teacher, so I’m around kids all day, but I don’t really worry about most interactions, as long as everyone’s wearing masks, and I can be as little as a foot or two from the students at times. I guess I’ve just learned to adapt.
In bad cases it infects the gut, not just the respiratory track. There seem to be some cases where the primary infection is the gut. I’ve heard of people who were hospitalized whose first symptoms were all gastrointestinal, and who only developed respiratory problems later. Municipalities measure the level of covid particles in sewage. I read somewhere that anal swabs are a more reliable diagnostic test than nasal swabs.
It’s generally extremely difficult to know for sure how someone caught a disease. For obvious reasons, no controlled experiments have been conducted on humans, yet, documenting the spread. Epidemiological data indicates that the primary method of transmission is aerosol. I don’t believe there have been any cases known for certain to have been spread by food, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. I’m not sure there’s even a case known for certain to have been transmitted by coughing. That’s just not an easy thing to prove.
And as i mentioned, i lack the stomach acid that most people have. The stomach acid which likely kills it in food before it can infect the intestines for most people. And it’s known that the intestines are rich in the receptor the virus uses to enter cells.
I’m not suggesting that you take these precautions, because you probably have robust stomach acid. But I’m going to keep doing this until i can be vaccinated.
Its cheap, convenient, and readily available. Twice a week sounds pretty normal (personally I’m once a week at the moment), once a month sounds like its outside the norm.
If people were only eating fast food once a month the entire fast food industry would collapse. Its like that joke either George Carlin or Jim Gaffigan said
Nobody admits to eating fast food and yet McDonalds claims they serve billions a year. Somebody is lying!
Thanks for the explanation. I am probably too dismissive of the hand cleaning precautions and what not, as I think that even if it hits people gastrointestinally first, I’m guessing it still entered through the airways. I’m no doctor, but I do pay attention to kinds of evidence that comes to light. Whatever it is, we’re going to need to watch out for each other for at least a few months longer.
