I posted a while back that I need to sell my car because I can no longer drive. I also don’t want to deal with strangers test-driving it and other hassles. Some Dopers recommended CarMax, but it turns out the nearest one is over 50 miles away. As I’d need two friends and another car, I had to give up on that. A friend suggested looking into Carvana, but the reviews seem to be mixed.
Does anyone here know anything about this company or have experience dealing with them?
Any car dealer which sells used cars also buys used cars (although some may just get them from trade-ins or wholesalers). So have you contacted local dealers?
Not yet. I can’t get the car TO a dealer without a friend’s help, and I’d prefer to go with my friend’s boyfriend, who knows a whole lot more about cars than I do and is a better bargainer than I. I’m frankly terrible at that sort of thing. All of that is why I’m wondering about Carvana.
I just bought a truck through Carvana (like, six days ago.) The process was seamless and hassle free. The truck is in great condition, too. Just needed new tires. I haven’t tried selling a car through them tho.
Just sold a car to them 3 weeks ago. They offered $300 less than the blue book value, but I had to get rid of it ASAP (the extra car insurance was killing me).
Faxed over copies of title, registration, and my license, heard back by next day. Had an appt to pick up car within 2 days. They were running a few hours late, but kept me updated via texts and phone calls. Fast, easy, and they handed me a check on the spot.
Good luck! (this was in NYC)
eta: forgot to add, I had to fill out a car profile online, telling them about accidents, mileage, upgrades, etc. Also, you can send over docs by taking pics with your phone, not just faxing. It really was a painless transaction. You can probably get more money elsewhere, but if you want to avoid the hassle and do it quickly, this was the perfect solution for me.
You can take it for a quick spin around the block when they deliver, and they have a seven-day no-questions-asked full refund policy. The only requirement is that you not put more than (I think) 400 miles on during the seven days.
I did not get it from the vending machine. Browsed cars on the interwebs at 3am and picked one that matched what I was looking for.
