I choose an AMD FX CPU (I got the FX-60). The motherboard is also important, I got an Nvidia SLI (can’t remember the exact model).
In terms of graphics card the Nvdia is currently in the ascendancy. The Nvidia 8800 is the first directX 10 compatible card, and is significantly better than anything else on the market right now.
Intel Core 2 Duo and Quad processors are currently stomping AMD’s entries. NVidia’s 8800 chipset can smoke anything on the market from ATI. Naturally ATI and AMD will have new entries in coming months, but if you’re building now, Intel and NVidia are the way to go.
That is correct. I hardly ever say this about IT stuff but I would wait. The reason is that there will be a slew of new hardware releases built around Vista coming in a few months and prices should drop while choices will rise. Nvidia 8800’s for example are great but their prices are very high. Waiting a little while until things stabilize should make things more clear and less costly.
