I’ve watched it, and it was very good, but I’m reasonably sure it’s not the movie I was thinking of. I could swear that the guys didn’t know they were dead until very near the end, and I don’t remember anything about baseball, or an investigation or a cowardly general.

Who knows, maybe I’m conflating a bunch of movies.

No, I remember it that way too, vividly. It’s not a Twilight Zone episode, it’s a full movie.

Interesting how many people in those other threads say they were “haunted” by the movie, having seen it as a kid. Me too.

I haven’t had a chance to watch the link yet but I don’t think they knew that they were dead in the movie that I’m thinking of. I sorta kinda of remember being sad when it was revealed. Or not. Memory is a funny thing.

The Flight of the Phoenix(the original was made in the 60’s) could also be a possible source of confusion. It has a plane crash in the desert, but not the same ending of course (spoiler is in the title).

I can’t speak for the OP, but I’m quite certain this isn’t the movie. I’ve seen it at lleast half a dozen times, and there are no ghosts for one thing.
