One of those rough traditional ones worn by penitent Christians way back to mortify the flesh? I can’t find them anywhere
Don’t know. You might try contacting either of the two Catholic orders referred to in the Catholic Encyclopaedia, to see if there’s a supplier, maker or something.
I would think that the monks in those orders would likely make their own hair shirts and not order them from someone else.
True. Guess the OP is stuck with finding the right kind of goats for the hair, and maybe an old pattern?
Mmmm, Anthrax.
There are lots of places that make and sell hair-cloth. Both goat hair and camel hair cloth are available. Why not buy a few yards of each and hire a taylor to make a couple of shirts for you. It’d be a little decadent, I know, but that way you’d have the goat hair shirt for everyday wear, and a nice camel hair shirt for those extra-special occasions.
Hair shirts are sold everywhere. They are called woolen sweaters.
Thanks for the reply’s everyone, I’m too lazy to order the fabric, than have it made, etc… I’ll try to contact those two orders. That article in the Catholic encyclopedia is from the early 1900’s though and since Vatican II alot of the big orders like the Carmelites got kinda wishy washy and threw out alot of good stuff from the past, I would’nt be surprised if hair shirts were one of the things it got rid of.
