I’m creating a web site that uses latitude/longitude data. I’ve got data for the U.S. and Canada, down to cities, from USGS. But I can’t seem to find a place where I can get similar information from other countries.
Anyone have any ideas?

Mapquest.
From their help page:
Select the Maps tab, and then from the International pull-down menu, you can select Map by Latitude & Longitude.
Wow, something might be wrong with me. I took this thread to be about something completely different from what it is actually about. Of course, I parsed the title as asking for fat/long data outside the U.S.
:smack:
I realize this is not what you’re asking for, but you might enjoy looking at http://www.confluence.org/
This might help - http://www.bcca.org/misc/qiblih/latlong_oc.html
Still looking for a free db.
Sorry, this isn’t quite what I’m looking for - I don’t have the lat/longs, and that’s what I want. And I’m hoping someone knows of a data file that can be loaded into a database, rather than an interactive map.
The last link was broken.
This should do it:
http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/
But massive files, slow download, and some translation issues. Free though!
control-z and steadierfooting - those both look like what I need, thanks!
If you go to the World Clock web site and click on a city, it will give all sorts of info on it including current time, sunrise and sunset times, moonrise and set times, and latitude and longitude. Althugh not every city is listed on the home site, with every city you can get places nearby and this gies a much larger list of cities and towns. One thing I could never find was any town in eastern Oregon that uses mountain time.
They have these books that are full of world maps. They are called an “Atlas”. If you go to the back pages, there is usually an index that shows where one can find any town in the world – they will tell you what page (what map) it’s on, and will give you the latitude and longitude so that you can locate it on the map.
Books? An Atlas? What website are those on?
