Died at 84. One of my favorite folk rock artists ever. A Canadian national treasure. He will be missed.
He’s on the Carefree Highway.
He was a legend. He was also a legend that people thought had died over a decade ago, and he did have something to say about that! RIP Gordon Lightfoot; your music influenced a lot of people.
The legend lives on
From the Chippewa down
I have Gordon Lightfoot on my iPod. His songs used to come up frequently. They haven’t come up on Shuffle mode for a while.
I have a whole playlist of his stuff on my Youtube
Not paywalled, and very detailed.
Sundown for Gord. RIP.
Last fall when the Queen died, there was an interview with Lightfoot. He played the Railroad Trilogy for her at one of the Centennial events in 1967 and spoke with her afterwards. She said that she was a fan and had played and re-played that album many times.
I like that image of Liz boppin’ to Lightfoot in Buck House.
Ah, I’ll miss old Gordon Tippy Toes, not sure how he acquired that nickname in my circle of friends.
Carefree highway
Let me slip away on you
Carefree highway
You’ve seen better days
You can’t jump a jet plane like you can a freight train
So, I’d best be on my way in the early morning rain
A real poet.
'Sit Down, Young Stranger and tell us who you are" is one of his less known songs, but a favourite of mine.
It’s a moving ballad about a young man’s relationship with his parents.
Guess they’ll have to ring that bell 30 times.
It’s been good to know you.
My favorite as well. It captures the mood of the time in many ways.
Obit threads merged.
I have three albums i bought on my phone. I guess 84 is a decent run, but the world feels a little smaller.
