If a person has a spastic disorder and cannot control the small buttons on an mp3 player does anyone manufacture a player that has larger buttons which are easier to manipulate? I have seen TV remotes and calculators that are like this, but can’t find an MP3 player.
Something like this, but for MP3s instead of TV remotes.
However I called the local walgreens and they said they are more of a holiday item and only in stock in fall and winter. But when they are, they can be had for $5-10.
I saw that one clearanced in Walgreens over a year ago. I haven’t seen a large one other than that in a store.
How large do the buttons need to be? Is something with smaller buttons like an inch in size going to work? That other player seemed more like a novelty item when I saw it. It really is gigantic.
That is pretty cool. The woman in question has MS, and I’m not sure how that affects your voice. But voice control would be a good option. However I think that device only works on ipods, not on other players.
I mailed a friend of the family, who has early-onset Parkinson’s and trashed three iPods before turning thirty. She recommends HumanWare’s Victor Reader ClassicX. It’s a handful to learn and mostly designed to play audio books, but it works fine for MP3s as well. It’s CD only, though, which is a problem. (Though it takes MP3 file CDs)
ETA: The more compact VictorReader Stream-DAISY-MP3 (here) can store information on SD cards, which is a bit more portable. The buttons are smaller though, but still pronounced and tactile.
Is your friend wheelchair bound? Here’s an option but it’s not like…super elegant. They may not be into the design if they want to use it walking around in public. I can see it being more useful for wheelchair-bound people. But it’s a totally cool idea!
I thought a kids mp3 player would possibly fit the need. I didn’t find one. I was waiting on input from Wesley Clark before looking further. The maximum price would be helpful too.
